To transfer the amount of $85,000.00 from the City of Everett General Operating Expenses-Short Term Debt Interest Account for Short Term Interest on Temporary Loans to the City of Everett General Operating Expenses-Insurance General Liability Insurance Account, as was not sufficiently funded in FY 2008 budget. To transfer the amount of $70,000.00 from the City of Everett General Operating Expenses-Short Term Debt Interest Account for Short Term Interest to the City of Everett General Operating Expenses-Employee Injuries Account for Active Fire & Police Medical Account to cover the City's responsibility for all medical bills for firemen and policemen who are injured on the job. To amend the School Safety Zone Ordinance by adding Pope John High, to run from Shute Street, at Dairy Maid, to Dunster Road, with proper signage to indicate the zone.(Ordained sent up for ordainment)
9. A0047-08 Ordinance/s/Alderman Michael K. Marchese
That Chapter 18, Section 18-133 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Everett, "Prohibited on Certain Streets" is hereby amended by adding "Freeman Ave, north/odd side". The purpose of the amendment is to make one-sided parking on north/odd side of Freeman Ave, which was approved by the Traffic Commission. (Enrolled in concurrence, sent up for ordainment)
10. C0047-08 Communication
Notice from Retirement Board relative to their annual COLA notification from the Public Employee Retirement Administration for retired members. The COLA the Board may grant effective July 1, 2008 is 2.3%, but with proper notice to Legislative Body, they may elect, at their next Retirement Board meeting on February 27th, to increase this percentage to 3%. To refer to Community Development and CETF for a response in two weeks on their recommendation that all Real Estate Companies in the Community consider being required to know parking and sanitary rules, and that there is a Code Enforcement Task Force, so that they may tell all future homeowners, as well as informing homeowners of the CETF Website. | Item 27 really bothers me. We all want to see Iraq come to an end. People much brighter than Jason Marcus will make these decisions. I have a nephew who has been there twice and a future son-in-law getting ready to go back for the third time. Our troops need our full support, no matter what the duration happens to be. |

This is just Jason looking for a way to get his name on the calendar. However, I don't think hoping for an end to the conflict means you don't support the troops that are there. I'd like them all to come home tomorrow, but that's not practical. In the meantime, I'd like to think that we all understand that we need to show support for the men and women who are there; whether or not we agree with US presence in Iraq -- or anywhere else in the world, for that matter -- our troops deserve our support and our gratitude.

| I am very interested in what Jason Marcus has to say. If he's his usual, Jason being Jason ,then that would be an insult to everyone fighting in Iraq right now. Everyone wants the troops home but to pull out without a resolution is a slap to the people that gave their lives for the cause over there. The government needs to come up with a resolution which includes the withdrawal of US troops. Hopefully, that will happen before President Bush leaves office. |

If Jason is just looking to get his name on the agenda, then he should find another issue. This particular subject touches many families. I have spoken to my family members that have served in Iraq, and they damn well know what is being said in this country about the troop withdrawal and some of the ridiculous statements that have come from some of our national politicians. This sort of stuff hurts their moral, making a difficult situation even more difficult. I am sure they support our troops, and may not like the President's policies, they just need to be more careful with their words.
I want us out of Iraq ASAP, but not at the expenses of those who have died and of those who are still there. Like Tails said, we cannot pull out without some type of resolution to the problem. If we leave it the way it is now, this country will never be safe again. These extremists want to wipe us off the face of the Earth.

That resolution has no place at the Board of Alderman meeting.
What is he thinking ?
Lets try and solve some of Everett's problems before we get involved in International stuff. |

I agree with the rest of you, lets concentrate on the matters affecting Everett.
Jason being Jason, just shouldn't fly anymore. He is wasting time and effort.
If he wants to get his name on the agenda, he should stick to his constituent concerns, I am sure he has plenty of those. Sometimes I can't figure out who wastes more of the board’s time Jason or Wayne, quality leadership at work.

Let's watch for a reorganization of code enforcement, building, and city services very soon.
An Inspectional Services Department, perhaps?
The city charter needs to be changed, just to make it legal, of course......

| While I'm very happy that item #27 turned out the way it did, I can't say that a big fan of the calendar not being read at the meetings. I don't know how someone who doesn't have a copy of the calendar available can follow what's going on at times. |

I missed the meeting and it sounds as if Jason Marcus got word that people were not happy about item number 27. I don't understand what that had to do with the calendar. Did someone complain that they didn't have a copy of the calendar or they didn't understand why item 27 was on the calendar at all? I did see Commissioner Rice going into city hall. I am sure he had an interest in it too but since nothing was read, hopefully everyone will do the respectful thing.

I agree with you. I used to go ballistic when they didn't read what was on the calendar. Now I follow along with the calendar posted on this message board. That being said, item 27 is one of the rare times I was glad they didn't read from the calendar.

I think someone must of said something to Jason, not one word was said on that item from anyone. No one complained about not having a copy of the calendar. I believe Tetris was talking about the viewing public not being able to follow along when they don't read what is on the agenda. |

| I was glad to see RVC put a stop to Wayne's grandstanding. We heard enough of that when he was on the CC. He is up with the big boys now and should concentrate on the issues at hand. |

| I caught parts of the re-run of Monday night’s BOA meeting. Now I understand about the calendar. If the viewers at home didn’t read the agenda somewhere, they had no idea what item# 27 was. I think it should have been read, then, referred back to sponsor. I’ve learned a lot from here, much more than the local papers too. |
