Yes, he was certified.............. Our tax dollars paid for his certification. He was not certified when he was hired.

I heard he was difficult to work with and totally inflexible. I guess we know different people..........

Do you mean Pedulla was difficult or Clayton? Or.........Both? See I have a problem with this whole thing and something is not right and the alderman just rubber stamped it. It was NOT okay for Mr. Clayton to be the Purchasing Office/Budget Director. It was NOT okay for the Chief of Staff to be the City Solicitor. Colleen Mejier's $95,000.00 salary was justified that she was the City Solicitor/ Personnel Director. We know that did NOT happen.

These positions are in shambles and not being done right. They are excuses for favors and we can NOT count on at least FOUR alderman, TWO we can count on, and ONE can go either way....We, the taxpayers, will be paying the price for these favors and foul up's. Jill Barringer is an attorney. She was the Wood Waste attorney. WE, the taxpayers, will be paying for certification once again. We started paying for Mr. Clayton....remember? But, I don't know if he actually finished. Just open the window and throw away tax payer money!

I was referring to Pedulla but you're right about us paying for Clayton and [now] Jill. I find it hard to believe there's not someone with the right credentials available to fill that position. (Is Jack Garron working?)

Used properly, consolidation is a very efficient way to save money. It works in the private sector very well. However, there are a few differences...........

They do not consolidate to give the person holding the consolidated position a salary equivalent to the sum of both salaries. (thereby negating any savings)

They do not consolidate positions to employ unqualified friends, family, neighbors, and political supporters.

A week after taking office, one of Carlo's administrative staff let it be known that a primary goal was re-election. That's the day I knew we were in trouble and found myself wishing I could take back my vote. As we all know................ it's gone down hill from there.

I'm hoping by the time the Van Campen is elected it's not too late to turn things around.

You know, I need to say this and I'm saying this with all due respect and integrity.

What the hell is wrong with everyone? We are so misguided in this city, its pathetic. That is precisely why we are in the position we are in now.

We want honesty.....we want integrity..... but if our buddys aren't there, we have real issues with the individuals facilitating change.

To do the job of Purchasing Agent is not easy. There are alot of guidelines and regulations to abide by. MORE IMPORTANTLY, it takes a person of immense strength and integrity to do what is needed to do to assure that the law is followed. TIt's your signature, your ass on the line.... I dont care who gave you the job; I wouldn't take the fall for anyone and do the wrong thing.

Now, in this case,Just me, the person or people who told you that Pedulla wasn't good to work with were probably remnants of the ol'boy network who were NOT doing the right thing FOR YEARS and were being questioned and made to stop improper practices. For years, many vendors weren't even allowed to submit a bid.... that is wrong on many levels and honestly, it cost the people of this city PLENTY...... no competition......... A blatent example of this and caused a huge brew haha and one of the reasons Pedulla began to get a bad rep was the instance where a local vendor's establishment was being used to the tune of $60,000 annually WITHOUT the benefit of price shopping, etc. The purchases were done in this manner because it always was done that way and pockets were being lined. (It was exactly like when the Pentigon was paying $300.00 for toilet seats. The City was paying $7.50 for bleach that cost .99.) Friends of this individual were furious and the character assasination began. Was this right? Absolutely NOT. When these practices stopped there were alot of people who were thrilled to get an opportunity to actually be considered for municipal work finally because the process was OPEN. This saved the people of this city alot of money (an example of the hard work and savings was the recycling program that he and Jon Norton worked on). It also gave us the biggest bang for our buck and vendors had to become creative to win a bid. This helped us. Pedulla (and others) became unpopular and were, in my opinion, victims of horrid character assasination. Why? Because they did the hard job and asked the questions and were willing to do the work and change the business as usual attitude that is ALL TOOOOOOOOOOO PERVASIVE here.

Think about it. It gets cleaned up and because he wouldn't go back to the ol' boy way of doing things... he's an ass...... WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT US? We cannot have it both ways people.

Today, it's back to the same sad story. An inept person who does WHAT THEY ARE TOLD, NOT WHAT THE LAW DICTATES. That is why there hasn't been a contract or bid done properly since June and the usual suspects are getting the lions share of the work. If we take a look back a decade, this same thing has happened in our city's history. Way before (10 yrs) Pedulla got the job as CPO, Maureen Mahoney stepped up to the plate and refused to improperly purchase. She lost her job. This has ABSOLTUELY NOTHING to do with consolidation. The Inspector General's Office has ruled against this practice three different times. Checks and balances are required. THIS IS BEING DONE TO GIVE COMPLETE AND UTTER CONTROL OF EVERYTHING to the EOB and his vendor friends....cha-ching

Doing the right thing is never popular or easy. More times than not, the people who attempt to do what is right get their heads handed to them.

As it concerns getting certified on the city..... you betcha. I mean, come on...... you get a job and find out that there is a state certification process. You sign up and do it. As far as I know, NO OTHER person who held that position ever went and did it. Its like everywhere else.... you upgrade annually or as the classes come along. The fact is.... he took the initiative and did it. Anyone worth their salt would. I mean, in my field, we are required to do some updating annually; however, their are other classes and accredidations that are voluntary. Those separate the true professionals from the people who do the minimum.

As I said before, I've been reading the blogs for the amount of time that many of you have been blogging. You are fine, articulate and concerned individuals whose comments broaden most of our minds; however, I really feel that, in this forum, individuals get shot first and thought about later.

Just me..... from your lips to Gods ears about Vancampen..... but, lets look at it....... typical.... he questions (AS HE SHOULD) and he gets lambasted for it. There is truly a problem in this city; that is why, I believe, we are seeing less and less good, qualified individuals wanting to dip their toe in the political waters.

It all begins with us.....

Isn't there a planning board meeting at 7:30 about open air dumps? What brain surgeon scheduled that during a BOA meeting?

They wouldn't deliberately be trying to get rid of Robert Van Campen, for item six, especially how sneaky it was brought up under suspension.

I still say the private residents can not let up on the DEP and the AG. I don't trust Everett people to monitor anything that comes from Wood Waste, and the DEP needs to know that.

At the end of the public meeting, I believe I heard someone ask the mayor to have the contact numbers for the DEP and the AG put up on ECTV. The mayor told this person he would do it. Has anyone seen it? I have not.

Look I talked to a few people and they can not enter into this agreement with WILLIAM THIBEAULT about anything. I just found it it is true about the new york police are in Newburyport. Theres to much going on and someone needs to investigate him before the city gets in any further over thier heads with this guy. The answer is simple. The mayor and his health dept. issues a stop order. He can do it I called the dep. Thats what the councilors should be fighting for not doing favors for him. What favors has he done for the poeple that live in the area?

I'm in total agreement. They lied....those piles are getting bigger. I was there yesterday watching. I watched trucks empty out on existing piles. He's operating, he's making money, the piles ARE growing and NO ONE is watching. Just go down there and see. We are being lied to.

Things are starting to come out about NH and now he's in a Hotel while the house is for sale.....in this economy??

Sounds to me as if something might be going down and we will be stuck with two dump sites. If he can load it in a container, then he can load it in one of those eighteen wheeler trucks that go barreling into Wood Waste.

The City Council and the administration had better find out and make public what is going on before making any deals with this guy. They have been trying to sweep a lot of secrets under the rug about Wood Waste and Thibeault and these things always come out so it's in their best interest not to rush into any agreement with him. The mayor, along with the Board of Health, should order a cease and desist order until then. He certainly can do it per MGL Chapter 111 NOISOME TRADES.

4. I would hope that some explanation is given of why the number of units is being increased at the Devens School redevelopment and what other steps need to be completed before the sale can be finalized.

6. Let's pass hope that they pass this; there's no reason not to. Why shouldn't the city at least be in position to put together a good contingency option if the Newburyport issue does not resolve itself. The administration is going to go ahead with it anyways; good for them. It's time to show a little unity, at least on this part of the issue.

8. Anybody know why Parkway Auto Sales got hit with a cease and desist?

9 + 10. Since the R & O meeting didn't take place until after the agenda got published, we'll have to wait until Monday night to get an idea where these items are headed.

13. Jason Marcus vs. Comcast. Anyone wanna bet that this goes nowhere?

14. I think that it is obvious that the fire stations are going to be a around for a while and, therefore, need some attention. I actually support a Jason Marcus piece? Wow!

15. Wasn't this park supposed to be developed as a part of the new high school project? Does anyone remember exactly what happened to it?

16. I believe that Alderman Van Campen had a great deal to do with developing the same type of ordinance in his day job in Melrose.

17. I think that Alderman Matewsky knows, just like the rest of us, that GTA had the DCR landscaping contract in Everett this year. He better be careful where he goes with this one or he could tick off the wrong people. Kind of interesting.

On item #8, is that the used car lot in front of the old City Yard? If it is, I believe Larry White from White's Auto Body owns that property. Mr White was in attendance at the Wood Waste public meeting.

No, Massdee; it's on the other side of the Parkway. The only reason that I know is because I did a Google map on the address. I haven't been by there recently. I'll have to swing by and see what, if anything, is going on.

Is it my TV or is the sound screwed up at the BOA meeting.

Can we use the money from the beautification program to help beautify our fire stations?

What the hell is temporary ownership of a property? The mayor just stated Thibeault already has a trailer down on lower Broadway and is operating out of it. Doesn't he need a license for that?

So. now we learned that the DEP has again cited Wood Waste for noncompliance on November 5th. If he refuses to comply on Boston Street with all this going on, what makes anyone think that he will ever comply to anything down lower Broadway.

The nerve of the mayor to be knocking Newburyport, again. I hope someone is taping this meeting and sends it up to Newburyport.
