Will be airing a special Thursday night at 11pm regarding eighteen wheeler overuse of the bridges in Everett and why they get away with it.

Life is a long lesson in humility

I personally believe there has to be more of a police presence at the lower Broadway area, especially during rush hour times. I'm not knocking the police, but they used to be on lower Broadway everyday. I know the Chief has a full plate and he does the best he can with what he has, but they should reorganize their presence. I'm not sure if it's the weight of the trucks or if it's what they carry but everytime I drive on lower Broadway, and I do daily, big 18 wheelers are always driving towards Everett and around the rotary using RT 16 headed towards Target. They should be taking the left and using Boston Streets but they do what ever is the fastest. And they get away with it.

this whole city has a full plate, if the traffic enforcement did there jobs instead of sitting down at stop and shop and worked daylight hours instead of nite time we all would be safe..

Is the traffic enforcement the police? If they are, it should be 24/7. Ya know, just from my few times on lower Broadway today, I saw an 18 wheeler headed towards the rotary and this one was an ugly brown truck that was all open on top and crap was flying out. My point is if the police were there for two hours in the morning and two hours at night you will be amazed at how many illegal trucks are driving on Everett roads. They need to sit on side streets and start making these company and their drivers accountable. I know that they are busy but come on, this is getting ridiculous and I thought after the December 5th accident we would have seen more of a presence. Not at all.

Let's hope that the trucks going to the sludge plant aren't overweight...think that the City of Boston will give them a ticket?

Does anyone know where the entrance to this plant will be? Until they started the site prep work, I never realized that the parcel that it appears to be going on is right on Rt. 99. If the entrance is right there also, it is going to be a mess with trucks taking a left across Rt. 99 to access the site.

Lower Broadway is a disaster now and the construction just started. Traffic has been a nightmare regardless of what time it is. When I got my drivers license, I remember that you can NOT cross a double yellow line. They do it all the time there. I’m telling you, God forbid, but someone is going to get killed down there. That gas station is in Everett. It is a solid yellow line. Everyday someone is blocking the left passing lane crossing over the yellow lines. Where are the Everett Police? Do they not care because it’s on the Boston border? This is the place that should be a priority, not the square.

I believe the double yellow lines mean you cannot pass anyone that is on your side of the road.....you can still turn onto a street or into a business on the other side of the road. That said, I agree it will be a mess. I travel lower broadway to and from work each day. It definitely slows down when someone tries to make any turn off of Broadway. Put that together with the out of sync light cycles and the 20 minutes it takes to go from Elmwood St to the Boston line will be closer to 35 minutes.

Are you sure about the double yellow lines? I could have sworn that you can not cross any solid line. I think the alderman of that ward is going to have to start getting involved. Is lower Broadway Ward 6 or Ward 1?

I know the power plant side of lower Broadway is ward one. I think the side with the proposed sludge plant is ward six, but I could be wrong about that.

I just checked the RMV site...my post was correct. If the sludge plant is in Boston, it isn't in any ward :)

Does anyone know what ward lower Broadway is up to the gas station because right after that is Boston, and of course, the sludge plant. The issues that are happening like the illegal trucks, traffic, etc are happening in Everett due to the sludge plant. An Alderman needs to make a motion to either have extra patrols or meet with the chief on these issues and work something out. The past two weeks the traffic and illegal trucks have been absolutely horrendous and is only getting worse.

Massdee is correct; the portions of Everett that are on the power plant side of lower Broadway are in Ward 1. According to the Secretary of State's web site, those Everett voters that live on the other side of lower Broadway (i.e., Charleston Lofts) vote in Ward 6. Also remember that Route 99 is a state road; I have no idea how the jurisdicition issues may play out down there.

The way I remember the wards, for the most part, wards 1,2 and 3 are on the Immaculate Conception Church side of Broadway and 4, 5 and 6 are on the City Hall side of Broadway.

The Alderman (or both, ward 1 and 6) need to make a motion and have the Chief of Police tell them exactly what they intend to do about this problem. As I stated before, it's getting really bad in that area. The trucks pulling into the sludge plant crossing the yellow lines blocking traffic, they are using Everett roads to get in there. If I travel that way twice a day and I see trucks that I feel should not be driving on Everett roads then can you imagine if the police would stake out down there how many trucks they can pull over. The past two weeks has been much worse. That Alfred bridge is going to collapse and it's going to happen at rush hour when all those cars are stuck there and have no place to go and it's from all the overweight trucks that are getting away with it. The police are not going to listen to me but they will listen to an Alderman (or two) that will make them come to city hall and tell them what's going to be done about it. This is a serious public safety matter and I know for fact the police have not been there. I just hope we don't have to wait for another tragedy to get their attention.
