I understand that many people support a candidate for the sole purpose of anticipated employment. It's the nature of the political beast everywhere. I also understand that doing a good job doesn't guarantee continued employment when a new administration takes the reigns. Anyone that accepts a non union position is aware of the somewhat tenuous position they are putting themselves in. If they anticipate doing a good is going to ensure continued employment, they are probably wearing blinders.
I truly don’t have a problem with Carlo or any other mayor replacing people with his supporters as long as the replacements are capable of doing the job and earning their paycheck. As a matter of fact, I’ll even go so far as to say I’m not overly concerned with their qualifications…………. as long as they’re capable of doing the job.

justme.....I have no desire to bring you fine folks in line. I'm just offering my opinion. It's clear that the majority of people on this board aren't in favor of how the mayor is running things. But the reality is that there are only a dozen of you at most expressing your opinion on here . In November, 50% plus 200 of the voters in this city decided the Carlo DeMaria was the guy for the job. I spent some time looking back through past posts from alot of you. It was easy to see that it's not the current mayor you attack, but every administration that isn't your guy.
So while you leaders of the minority sit here and criticize, the leader of the majority will continue to do the job he was elected to do. I read in the Independent the other day that the mayor was meeting with state official regarding various areas of development in the city. I hear the mayor is on his way to Washington DC this morning to discuss various funding needs with our congressional delegation. The snow was removed properly. The streets are cleaner. He is looking out for your tax dollars by cutting positions that aren't needed and consolidating departments when it makes sense to do so. All of this is happening under the constraints of a previous mayors budget.
As I said, bringing you fine folks in line isn't my goal. Just bringing forth an opinion that makes more sense to me than yours does.

Just Wondering, I think you're way off with your interpretation of member opinions of how the new mayor is operating. Up until the firing of Walter Rice, people seemed to generally support the changes the Mayor was making. People have, however, always been concerned about the Mayor's connection to William Thibeault who has proved himself to be less than a good corporate neighbor not just in Everett, but in at least one other community as well.
The firing of Walter Rice was a blunder -- it's that simple. I don't know anything about Rick Milley, but thus far all comments have been that he was doing a good job at the Rec Center.
It's fine to bring forward a dissenting opinion -- many of us on this board have had numerous heated exchanges, but at the end of the day we try (albeit sometimes grudgingly) to respectfully agree to disagree. Because your opinion may differ from another does not make it any more or less valid than the opinion of the person with whom you disagree. |

just wondering, I stand by my original statement.
quote: Thibeault is NOT a nice man, NOT a good corporate neighbor, and NOT what we want in this city.
We know he owns the land. The big question is............. Does he own the mayor? Owning the land doesn't mean he can do whatever he wants.
Let me answer your question to massdee. Yes, let's find a way to prevent him from doing any more damage to this city. Let's settle our issues through the courts and not do business with him. He is NOT what this city needs or wants!
We don't care how much land he owns. Ownership does NOT give him the right to adversely affect the lives of others. And you coming here to tell us otherwise isn't going to change anything.
You're right, we are a minority. However, you have no idea how many people we may be speaking to, or more importantly, for.............. |

I couldn't agree with you more. Ownership does NOT give him, or anyone else the right to adversely affect the lives of others. That applies to develops and next door neighbors.
For the discussion purposes, what happens to your opinion of the mayor if the city ends up with the following: Wood Waste in a covered facilty (resolving the health concerns you have raised), vacant land developed into large retail and business centers producing jobs and tax dollars (we all want more tax dollars). Maybe the large retail facilities that are brought in are of the type that like to donate to worthy causes, like a Boys and Girls Club or YMCA. Maybe there is enough room in the development to allow for a road that leads to the Gateway Mall, eliminating traffic down the village. After the land is developed, the man no longer owns it.
When all is said and done, the city gets a road, more tax dollars, no more long term debt expense from the new city yard, corporate donors for important programs, jobs and most important...Wood Waste in an enclosed structure. |

Tails,
I can tell you right now, if true that the mayor hired Al, it will not get the McGonagle supporters going his way. It will get Marcus for sure, but the rest of us can see the writing on the wall. This is Everett politics, pure and simple. What I really think the mayor is doing is getting his ducks in a row for a showdown on Thibeault with the Common Council and the Board of Alderman. That is only my opinion but due to recent happenings I think it my be a valid opinion. It all seems to be adding up. |

The Mirror was playing the unauthorized Everett version of Clue last night. Al Borgonzi...at 911...with a $125,000 job offer! I was cracking up last night watching it spiral out of control.
Sure, there may be some kernels of truth sprinkled across their posts last night but stop and think about it. Consolidate three different functions that don't have that much in common under a person who, no offense intended, probably doesn't have much of a background in any of them and pay them probably more than the mayor is making. Only in Everett. |

Well . . . let's think about this . . . Al Borgonzi is not the only member of Jason's "extended family" who once worked for the city under the Ragucci administration. |

Citizen,
As I said, I wouldn't doubt if there was some truth to what was posted last night. The original poster only said it was one of the "extended family"; the other posters immediately assumed it was Al Borgonzi. Unfortunately, I am not as up on this type of information as you need to be to follow the politics of this city. |

I'm with you on that, Tetris. I have no ides who is related to who. I know a few but they were easy, same last name. I know Al Borgonzi is, only because Jason made a point of saying it at meetings. I believe he called him his brother-in-law, beyond that I don't know anyone else. |

It does not matter who the Mayor hires ....as long as they were good workers...but hiring ANYONE that is close to ANY BOA or anyone that has to vote especially the votes for Thiebault. Marcus was dead against this so lets see what kind of story he's going to spin to "pretend" he's all for it. Talk about using political influence and so much for giving the city back to the PEOPLE. This is something the mayor vehemently denied during the election that would happen. I asked him flat out about Thiebault and he said there would be no discussions until he rectifies the problems that have been going on for years so I have not seen that yet and until I do I will actively speak out against any of it. Is anyone else putting the pieces of the puzzle together as far as Thiebault goes. Did anyone else realize how "conveniently quite" the BOA has become on these matters? Thiebault is a sore bruise on the city. |

just wondering:
I didn't express an opinion of the mayor and, for discussion purposes, it probably won't change.
I personally don't expect we'll ever see Wood Waste enclosed and, although you paint a beautiful picture, I believe the fairytale you describe is just that...............a fairytale. I'm not sure whose payroll you're on but it's obvious you're trying very hard to bring people onboard. Therefore, for discussion purposes, I'm done with this discussion. I will not continue giving you a platform to spread your tale.
Bye now....................... |

As luck would have it, it's an open forum.....so you aren't giving me a damn thing. Your response was interesting though. I read it as: "I don't care how much the city stands to gain from dealing with this guy, I don't like him and that's what matters most" An effective way of thinking if you were deciding whether or not to return to the barber that took a divot out your scalp last time you saw him.......not so good when you are trying to improve the infrastructure, tax base and quality of life in a city.
Translation.....there are plenty of barbers, but only one guy that owns over 50 acres. |

I know I said I wouldn't, but I have to ask..................
Since he has proven many times, here and in Newburyport, that he is untrustworthy. Why should we expect this leopard to change his spots? |

justme,
We just have to take him at his word. Thats worked real good in the past, NOT. If the DEP can't make him comply why would anyone think the present administration can do any better. I am one that is not willing to take that chance. |
