Thanks.

As best as I can tell, it certainly appears to be the same gentleman.

Well, IF...it is the same gentleman (I cant confirm that but it's an easy find out) it appears that he was okay with an extension agreement between Southbridge and and this Landfill Company. We could have another city employee to help Thibeault's cause. Again, IF it is him, what a setup for Thibeault. He's running the entire city...

Folks,

After what I've been through today, I'd like to say that maybe we getting ahead of ourselves.....but I can't. I'm still watching the video that Massdee provided the link to. Obviously, I don't understand everything that's going on but it is very unsettling. Is Southbridge the Everett of central Massachusetts? Watch the whole thing if you have not already. I can't wait for part 2.

Yes, Clayton Carlisle from Southbridge is our new budget director. My understanding is that Everett is in for a bumpy ride.

Fedup,

What do you mean by "Everett is in for a bumpy ride?"

Massdee - I shouldn't have put that sentence in my post as this is how rumors do start. I "heard" that Mr. Carlisle is very set in his ways and was known for giving city government a tough time while he was in Southbridge. I also should have read all the commentary on his dealings with landfills before I made that statement. I am nervous about Thibeault as it is. Only time will tell. The budget hearings will be starting soon and we will see how beneficial he will be to Everett.

On the lighter side, when I watched the video clip, I thought he looked like Joe Pedulla except for the hair or lack thereof.

All I did was "Google" Clayton Carlisle Southbridge, MA. There is a lot more reading material that I did not post, for those of you who might be interested.

From the Worcester Telegram & Gazette Digests

Southbridge panels seeks consultant
SOUTHBRIDGE — The committee leading the search for the next permanent town manager will ask town councilors for $20,000 to hire Groux and Associates for recruitment and consulting services.

The five-person search panel, after meeting Wednesday, called a joint meeting with councilors for 7 p.m.Thursday at Town Hall to discuss the skills desired of the next manager.

The town seeks to replace Clayton R. Carlisle, who resigned, effective March 15,2008, after citing differences with several councilors.

The council put Mr. Carlisle on administrative leave and appointed John F. Healey, Middleboro’s retired manager, as acting manager until June 20, by which time the search committee is expected to recommend a permanent hire.

Mr. Carlisle was being paid $114,757 annually. Mr. Healey is being compensated at the same pay rate.

Are you telling me this is the man? This man commutes from Southbridge and there was no other qualified person closer to be budget director in the city of Everett. Like this man is going to care about Everett? A man who was town manager and made sure this landfill got a 29 year contract. I can not believe this. I think there's a connection with this man and Thibeault.

Southbridge town manager not a watchdog

I would like to respond to an editorial written by Albert Vecchia ("Town lucky to have Carlisle as watchdog," Oct. 3).

That statement from Mr. Vecchia is so far from the truth that it is laughable. Anyone with an ounce of common sense can see with Southbridge Town Manager Clayton Carlisle spending, and with the help of the big spenders on the Town Council, they are taking us taxpayers to the poorhouse.

At one time, Mr. Vecchia was a big critic of Mr. Carlisle for raising taxes, along with the water and sewer.

I'd like to ask my friend, Mr. Vecchia: Who in their right mind would pay $850,000 for an armory when the towns of Webster and Milford got theirs for nothing. We have now spend over a million dollars on that white elephant, just so Clayton Carlisle can prove to himself the money wasn't wasted.

Now he has even convinced the Town Council we need a recreation director to operate the armory. Most likely, it will be someone who Mr. Carlisle can control. Is this what you call a watchdog? We should have let the building go and get taxes from the building.

When we bought the Cotton property, Ronnie Cotton gave the town a good deal at $1.4 million, plus equipment. I believe we are over $10 million and still counting. Mr. Carlisle let that budget get out of hand, and when the taxpayers foot the bill, there's no bottom to the barrel. The DEP dictated some of the cost, but not $10 million worth. Some watchdog.

Now let's talk about the sweet deal Mr. Carlisle worked so hard for to give Casella, and Southbridge got the shaft. Instead of making $5 million a year, we got a handful of crumbs for being the largest garbage dump of New England.

I don't think that we, the public, got all of the details in this crummy contract, so I stand to be corrected in my next statement. I understand that the town got from Casella $1.3 million a year, but out of that, we have to give back to Casella $350,000 for (free?) rubbish pick-up, $400,000 for the access road and $75,000 for the monitor at the dump. If these numbers are true, Mr. Vecchia, than Mr. Carlisle was not a very good watchdog for us taxpayers. Maybe this watchdog needed a seeing eye dog.

Now that Casella has a 29-year contract, they already made two changes that we didn't know about: They are going to charge again for recycling. And starting next year, Casella will not have the dumpsters at Southbridge Tire for us to get rid of our glass and branches. When did watchdog Carlisle and the Town Council know about this, and why was it not told before the contract was signed?

Mr. Vecchia, Mr. Carlisle is not a watchdog for the town, and isn't even a law and order guy.

He can't wait to leave Southbridge fast enough, and if he can make a deal to fatten his paycheck, he'll leave sooner. When he takes his last ride out of Southbridge in December 2008, the Town Council should declare another holiday to go with Christmas.
