I have lived in this city for the past 40+ years and I have NEVER seen my street empty for street sweeping. They towed last time around and this time they know that it isn't an empty threat that they will tow and when the cop made an announcement down the street they came out and moved their car. Good Job! This city is really starting look up.

I agree, the streets are looking cleaner, now if they would get out and take care of the pot holes. Last Thursday the city was on my street and they jack hammered out two large pot holes to prepare for filling them in. When finished they left two much larger and deeper holes and never covered them and up until today they have not been back . When driving on my street there is no way to avoid these holes. I personally think a week is more than enough time for the city to get back and take care of this. |

Question: Next week is the 5th week--- where do we park? Is there no street sweeping?? The signs only say 1st and 3rd...2nd and 4th? |

Lower Broadway is a traffic nightmare because of these potholes. Streets and parks are cleaner but are we leasing the sweeping machine from GTA because the city one is broken or are we paying GTA for this and if we are, how much? I'm just curious becasue I never saw GTA on the streets before and I always thought this type of work had go go out for bid....unless it's temporary. I don't know, I'm just asking. |

There is no parking ban on the 5th week but you have to be careful. It all depends what day of the week it is. For example, next Monday (28th) is only the 4th Monday of the month but Tuesday and Wednesday are the 5th week of the month and Thursday and Friday are the 1st week in May. The last week of the month can get very confusing. I have it written down on my calender all the way through to the end of November. It's the only way I can keep track of it. |

The street sweeper is being rented by the City from GTA for $77.00 per operating hour. Based on an eight hour day, I think that works out to about $3000.00 per week. That's all the info I have.

I think that it is worth every penny of it. My street, which usually looks like a slum, has never looked so good. If you figure out the gas prices for the sweeper (not sure if it is diesel, which is even higher per gallon), I don't mind the city using my tax money toward it. |

The streets do need to be cleaned and the city did have a sweeper that was broken, however, it was broken in the spring of 07. Are we getting this fixed....because that’s what we pay the 80+ city service people for and I have not seen anything go out to bid for this. Also, it’s kind of a double dip because if City Service is supposed to be doing this along with City Service employees operating the machine (that we are already paying for) and....we are also paying GTA? It was a GTA employee operating the sweeper so they must be getting paid by the city on top of the rental. He had a GTA sweatshirt on anyway. The bottom line for me anyway is I don’t mind my tax dollars going to this either, as long as the streets stay clean (especially in the summer months) and as long as this is temporary. This job belongs in the city. |

At $3000.00 a week and street sweeping lasts about 35 weeks, thats about $105,000.00. I wonder how much it would cost to repair and or replace the sweepers the city owns. I don't have a problem paying for the rental of the sweepers until the cities equipment is up and running again. It just seems to be going on for a long time. Did the city make sure they are getting the best rental deal? I don't know, are we even looking into fixing our sweepers? Or would it be more economical to contract street sweeping out? What does it cost the city to do it's own street cleaning versus contracting it out? |

It would not be more economical to contract street sweeping out. This is a service we are already paying for. I don't have a problem contracting it out, as long as it's temporary. The city sweeper has been down for over a year and the money going to this company would probably be better spent going towards fixing the city's. I'm no mechanic but I find it very hard to believe with city employees doing the labor, that repairing the sweeper would cost even close to $105,000.00. |

I just went out and read the street sweeping sign on my street. It says 2nd and 4th Monday's of the month for the even side of my street. Monday the 28th is the 4th Monday in April. So I would think there will be no parking on the even side of the street. That is what the sign says. |

Seeing that the streets with a Friday trash pick-up didn't get swept this week because of the holiday, I certainly hope that they get swept this coming Monday. We take more than our share of hits with all of the Monday holidays. On top of that, this year, April 1 fell on a Tuesday and November 30 falls on a Sunday. |

From the Cities web site,
Street Sweeping is in effect from April 1st through November 30th
Parking will be restricted on the Main Arteries from 4 AM to 7 AM every Tuesday and Friday as fellows: the odd numbered side on Tuesday's and the even numbered side on Friday's. Broadway - entire length Main Street - entire length Elm Street - entire length Ferry Street - entire length Chelsea Street - entire length School Street from Norwood Street to Corey Street Norwood Street from Liberty Street to Broadway
On streets other than a main Artery, parking will be restricted from 8 AM to 12 noon as specified by street sign.
Vehicles found in violation of the posted street sweeping schedule will be issued a Parking Ticket, and the vehicle will be towed at the expense of the owner.
Exceptions to the above schedules are:
If a major holiday falls on your regularly scheduled sweeping day, sweeping will not take place, and you will be allowed to park.
If you're regularly scheduled sweeping day falls on the fifth (5) day of a month, sweeping will not take place, and you will be allowed to park.
Special Note: you may not park on the restricted side of the street at any time.
