A couple of years ago I mentioned that I thought our police were lazy and ignored many violations and I got ripped apart. Unfortunately, that situation hasn't improved while the violations seem to have increased.
As far as I'm concerned, the majority of our police officers only want to do the cops and robbers kind of thing. They're not interested in the mundane loitering, parking, or traffic violations. I'm not sure how to get these guys off their butts to do the whole job, but I sure wish someone could figure it out.............. It's easy to blame the chief, but with the union backing them, he really has his back against the wall. |

Perhaps you all could come to a Crime Prevention meeting at the Police Station. They are held the third Tuesday of each month. |

I think that is a great idea, but something needs to be done more publicly, to at least get it started. I think a city wide town meeting on crime/safety only is important. Not get people there and with all their gripes, just to talk about their experiences and offer suggestions.
It should be televised and let the people be heard. We are at a high crime rate right now, so I think it's important.
Then, maybe, a lot more people would attend the crime prevention meetings. |

Tails - I agree that something must be done to reach more people. The Mayor and Matt Laidlaw attended the last meeting and will be attending the meeting in October. You could either make your suggestion then or prior to the meeting via phone or email to Matt. Whether we agree with Mayor DeMaria or not on how he is running the City, one cannot fault him for not trying to address the issues of the residents. Public Safety and Security is important to the Mayor and the Chief. I believe his Town Meetings are a great first step in communicating with the people. |

I'm in total agreement with you. Public Safety and Wood Waste are two separate issues, with Public Safety being #1, and I do admit, he does try to reach out. I think if he had a Town Meeting on safety, the place would be packed, and beneficial to all. |

The Town Meeting that I think we need is for Crime/Public Safety only. We have a crime wave that is still here and people can share their stories, get advise as to what to do, and hopefully, get more involved to help the police. I had a personal experience not too long ago and I was just taking out the trash. A group of "kids" were walking down the middle of street and they were talking about F-ing someone up VERY LOUD. I just happen to look up and they all stopped and looked at me, very intimidating. What do I do? Do I call the police, and have them come to my home and fear retaliation? Do I mind my business and just walk away and God forbid another person is put in that situation or, do I get into a confrontation with them and become the next victim?
Maybe there is someone else out there that the same thing happened to or someone can see it on TV and know what the right thing to do is. I just walked away, ignored them, and went in the house like they were not there. But I also can see how easy anyone can get into a confrontation. My mother would have to them..."Is that nice language" because she grew up in a different era when you could say things like that. You cant anymore.
This public meeting on crime/safety would be the only way for people to truly realize what's going on. Even though NNO may have been advertised on ECTV, I never heard of National Night out. I heard about it here, at this forum. Only 1% of the city actually sees this forum, even if that.
It could be just like his last town meeting where people wrote down what they wanted to say and came up and spoke. I thought that went well, and was organized. Some spoke longer than necessary so they can give people (depending on time constraints) 3-5 minutes. Get to the point, and let someone else speak.
Wood Waste is an absolute must to stand on it's own. It is essential to have a public hearing on "all matters" with the business owner whether it's Wood Waste, Boston Business Center, lower Broadway or what ever company he decides to go by that day. |

Maybe we will hear tomorrow. These terminations seem to happen on Friday's. Nine months in office, you would think your staff would be all set. I just don't get it. |

I just read the following on Topix. Does anyone have any info on this or is it just another unfounded rumor?
Nuzzo has a violent temper. He will be answering questions about his violent temper in Malden District Court next month. |

I have been trying to email the Mayor and Code Enforcement for over a week now and I get the messages back as "undeliverable". Is this another problem we citizens have to deal with, with this administration?????
I called the Mayor's Office and I'm told he isn't in then I call back and he is never there to take calls... I'm sure if I was a friend of his or something I would get a call back.
I think the Mayor's lost interest in his job and wants out, but before he leaves he will finish his list of people to terminate a list he has had help making up. His helpers are Jerry Navarra, GTA's two idiots and Thibeult of Wood Waste.
Everyone working at Cityhall should watch their back.
The house next door to me has more people living in then the Titanic did when it went down.. |

From Topix, very interesting reading.
"QUESTIONS 1. When the Devens School was sold were there any restrictions by the city council as to the number of parking spaces on the property? Is the new owner seeking a variance on parking spaces? 2. On the sale of the city yard, did the city actually deposit $3.5 million into the city treasury or was it less? Wasn't there some discussion before the city council by the mayor that about $100,000 would be needed to resolve Fourth Street problems with the abutters? 3. On the Massachusetts Inspector General's website, the IG Handbook titled “Municipal, County, District, and Local Authority PROCUREMENT Of Supplies, Services, and Real Property” Legal Requirements In disposing of real estate the Handbook lists the 9 steps and the order to be followed.. See Chapter 8, pages 95 to 108. On page 108 “Step 9: Retain records You must maintain a file of all written documents required by Chapter 30B for a period of six years from the date of final payment under the contract. These documents include the following: • the declaration that property is available for disposition, • the RFP and any amendments to the RFP, • the public advertisement, • all Central Register notices, • all proposals received, • evaluation materials, • a copy of the disclosure of beneficial interests, and • the signed purchase and sale agreement or lease.“ |

I have called the mayor's office and I'm always told he's not in however, his truck is in the parking lot. Then you get Navarro who takes everything so personal.
First, before you say anything, he wants your name, address and telephone number, like you are being interrogated. I told him (before the town meeting) that I would like to know the status of the "Public Hearing" on all matters with Wood Waste. I was told the Town Meeting was the same thing. I said, certainly not true, and he became agitated. I have also left messages for code enforcement to get down to E. Elm St before an accident happens with those blocks Thibeault put up, right up to the houses, and he is NOT abiding by the ordinance with the lighting. Someone is going to crash right into them and the city is liable.
As of today NOTHING has been done. Our Board of Health has backed off and code enforcement should be down at Wood Waste every day. Those piles are BIGGER and BIGGER everyday and I don't want to hear move them to lower Broadway (that's moving a problem from one place to another) or any excuses with the landfill. He should be trucking it out like he PROMISED in JUNE. He should NOT be accepting anymore waste, and I blame OUR code enforcement and BOH, for not putting a cease and desist order. |

Oh, I missed your post Massdee. Very good questions, and they need answers. To my recollection, I remember the Devens School sale being rubber stamped, and not many questions asked. |
