I'm not understanding...........is he going to stay in Newburyport and keep his business AND be a Sergeant AGAIN?
What about the other two officers that were stepped over the last time? Are we going to open that liabilty issue up again too? |

As for the incentive, is he paying us back in a lump sum, like it was given to him? Notice I said "us", it was our tax dollars that he received.
There is no way this man should be allowed back on the force. He has now left twice. Are we going to have to layoff a police officer because we will no longer be saving Vetrano's salary?
The mayor should be ashamed of himself if he allows Vetrano back.
Just my opinion.

Is this the same Michael Vetrano?
New trolley tour
It was about a year ago when Michael Vetrano, 34, began working on his proposal to start a trolley tour service in Newburyport.
While people visit the city to "get away for a day" and to do shopping, walk around and enjoy the city, Vetrano said, a tour will help attract an even bigger crowd.
"If this is there, they're going to use it," he said. "People will welcome it. Everyone's just excited about it."
With a city chock full of history and storied individuals, Vetrano sees a chance to both entertain and educate through his Newburyport "Past N Present" trolley tour service, starting by the end of the month. It will run every day from April to October.
"Vetrano's "Past N Present" 45-minute trip will include stops at numerous locations and will run from downtown Newburyport to Plum Island Point.
Each tour will be narrated by a guide. Local history buff Ralph Ayers will be among those offering his services as a guide. Ayers gives historical tours each year during Yankee Homecoming. He said this week he will assist Vetrano by giving a tour every few days.
"We're going to make it interesting," Vetrano said.

Well..................Big Gus is for sale - You must be logged in to see this link.
and certainly did not go on MLS today. If this is true, sounds like he knew in advance that his job would be waiting. Sounds like inside deals to me and I'd like to know if that's even legal. My big question is, WHY?

This is crazy!! I can't believe Carlo would even consider this but if he does, the 25k better come back the same way he got it. If it's not in a lump sum, it's useless.
It really is time for Carlo to get his head out of his butt............ |

This is crazy and the Alderman can not let this happen. If Carlo starts this then everyone who took the incentive has the right to come back! I've heard stories that Sergio Corneilo wanted his job back a while ago. He received a $17,000.00 incentive.
It's all fishy to me. Vetrano goes and gets $25,000.00 plus unemployment (which should be running out just about now) and all of a sudden he wants his job back?? I think he wanted a year off, and Carlo did a favor for his buddy. All paid for by the TAXPAYERS and this may not be "illegal" but should be reported and investigated by the Ethics Commission.
Vetrano will owe him BIG TIME.
This is a blatant disregard to the purpose of the incentive. The incentive was designed and paid out to reduce employees.
Read this on Topix and SOOOOOO true - The "days aren't gone"...Vetrano certainly seems to know where they are!

If this is true, I can't see Chief Mazzie being very pleased about it. The Chief was against bringing Vetrano back the last time. I also can't see it doing anything for the morale of the police officers who have been there and do their jobs on a daily basis. Will they be taking him back at his old position and same rate of pay?
I agree with Justme, If he is allowed to come back, the incentive should be paid back in a lump sum. The same way he received it.
Will this go in front of the City Council for a vote again? If so, we can only hope they will do the right thing and vote not to rehire Mr Vetrano. The city should not be adding any additional expenses. They should be looking for ways to decrease spending. Especially with the rumors of massive layoffs looming.
What ever happened to "Gone are the days"?

Is it really true that Vetrano (and possibly others?) got unemployment as well as the incentive? I thought the part of the goal of the incentive program was to avoid unemployment costs? They voluntarily gave up their jobs in exchange for the incentive payment.
Other than that, I pretty much agree with everthing else being said here. If the Mayor is truly determined to go down this path, it appears that only the Aldermen could stop him. If it comes down to that, we should make sure that we let them know how we feel, even if we're not sure that it will do much good with some of them. |

I don't understand the unemployment thing either. I didn't think you collect if you left your job willingly. I thought it was for people that were involuntarily dismissed and/or laid off?
I've been fortunate and have never needed to learn the ins & outs of it but I sure can't understand being able to resign, take a lump sum cash payout & then collect unemployment checks? What a wonderful world this is to be able to legally cheat the rest of us.............. |

If he is collecting unemployment, I don't know how legal that is. It is something that should definitely be looked into. I hope the Board of Alderman don't drop the ball on this one.

I hate to disagree with you but he is collecting unemployment the 25K was the insentive, the unemployment anyone can collect is based on their regular pay not detail pay but, regular pay they are allowed to collect unemployment, when he comes back he must pay back the insentive part of it, unemployment you do not have to pay back, nothing like double dipping for the city of everett and everett taxpayers
send in the clowns should be more like can I kiss you butt again |
