Welcome to the site, John.
My personal opinion is that it has more to do with taking care of friends and political favors to help get the Wood Waste issue to go forward and help Mr Thibeault.

And my personal opinion is that many of the positions being eliminated are ones that have over the years been given away as political favors and as a result, have found their way into each subsequent budget. Great job by the mayor in identifying these positions and eliminating them. |

If he's going to privatize MIS, I hope the people he lined up to are available immediately. I seriously doubt most of the city hall staff are comfortable doing anything more than using the programs they normally work with. If there's a system failure or problem, very few (if any) will be able to resole it on their own!
My understanding is that there are still IT resources available in other departments that can be used to cover for the 2 positions that were eliminated. Nothing wrong with consolidating these functions. |

Here we go again with that “consolidation” word. How many times will the state say no, you can’t do that? This administration feels they are above the law.
These “consolidations” are a cop out for his political lackeys and justification for their high salaries. Of course they all say “I can do it!” because they all want the money, but none ever check with state ethics. They are not thinking of the taxpayers of Everett that suffer for all these blunders.
They have no clue what they are doing up there and the city is a mess! |

I work in the IT field and have for 20 years. Replacing people in a IT department is something that requires weeks of transition. Are the employees training others and then leaving???? |

From what I have heard these people show up for work as usual and are being told they are all done, with no warning at all. |

They came in and were told to clear their desks and leave. PERIOD. All Everett people. This all comes from that other lackey he calls an assistant at $91,000.00
I guess this is why the taxpayers of Everett pay her the bucks not the Taunton taxpayers.

The word privitazation has only been mentioned here on this blog....I kind of like the word though. Many other cities and towns in the state use technology consultants to handle their IT work. Software programs like PC Anywhere and Webex have made it extremely easy for this to happen |

My understanding is that when the Mayor first took office, each department head had to produce a report outlining their job responsibilities. In the case of the IT staff, it would have included the various day to day tasks (or lack of in this case).
John, I also work in an IT organization....and I have seen the IT infrastructure in this city. If by chance there is a hole in the documentation, it won't be too hard to resolve....we aren't talking about Oracle Databases, racks of blade servers etc....the city hasn't done nearly enough investing into the IT infrastructure. At best, it's out dated.....at worst, antique. The work required to fix an issue would be considered simple desktop support.

The jury is out as to whether we're looking at job losses or position eliminations................
The rumor mill says a friend of Carlo's mother, who hasn't worked in a number of years, is taking Denise's job.
The MIS person (Alan?) at the police station is said to be adding city hall to his responsibilities. I've heard he's very good.
It will be interesting to see how this shakes out and how much of a pay increase the MIS person receives.
I don't have a problem with consolidations however his earlier attempts to consolidate haven't worked out very well. (Except for some paychecks!)

Although I hate to see anyone let go, for any reason, I understand that sometimes it's a must. My problem is people do not receive any notice, and, yes, they may receive two weeks pay, but that's not the point.
Show some decency and respect. Dont let people walk in thinking they have a job and get the surprise that your let go. Meet with people and tell them their will be changes....whatever. So then when Ms.Deveney walks around with her pink slips, they wont be that surprised.
There is no justification for Scott Councell. He was an asset to ECTV and did tremendous work at ECTV and for the city & residents. |

Sorry Tails, you can't give people notification of impending termination. It's standard to give two weeks pay in lieu of notice.
Giving notice and allowing people to stay needs to be considered very carefully based on job function, responsibility, and a strong belief in an individuals honesty and integrity. In general, not allowing people to continue working is the safest route to take. |
