No, he is at Mass General. He died on the scene but they were able to revivie him apparently. His neck was slashed. By an 18 year old kid, passing by with two buddies. What a waste.

I think the article says "A" Boston Hospital regardless of that, you are correct, what a waste.
No regard for a human life and the assailant is looking at "at least" 20 years behind bars "if" the victim lives. All for what? I don't get it.
When you are that young you should be thinking about girlfriends and boyfriends and getting married someday, possibly becoming something in life. Society today is so so sad. |

The news programs are all reporting that Mr Mooney is at the Mass General. I agree with the rest of you, something needs to be done to stop this escalation of violence in our city. |

Everett Stabbing Victim Dies EVERETT (WBZ) ¯ A teenager accused of stabbing a 37-year-old man in Everett will now face murder charges after the victim died Saturday at Boston Medical Center.
Sean Mooney was stabbed at the corner of Ferry Street and Blanchard Avenue Thursday night. The stabbing led to a neighborhood manhunt for the suspect who was seen running through nearby yards.
Police arrested 18-year-old Jeffrey Raphael, of Everett, in a home on Foster Street after police and K-9 dogs scoured the neighborhood, going door-to-door. Raphael was charged with armed assault with intent to murder but now faces a murder charge after Mooney succumbed to his injuries at Boston Medical Center.
Police allege that Raphael stabbed Mooney in the neck.
Raphael is scheduled to be in court for a hearing on Aug. 5.

What a terrible, terrible waste. Two lives ruined and the lives of their family members changed forever. |

All too true, citizen. But when will the city finally recognize that it needs to take some serious steps towards stopping the violence? We can't keep saying, "it happens everywhere," because it doesn't. I think this is the third murder in Everett this year. |

Maybe that's were they can start looking at reorganization. At least one dog should always be available. Someone from each unit within the police department should always be available or on call. 24/7. Please don't think I'm blaming the police, I'm not, but we are in a new territory with crime (for what ever reason) and changes need to be made.
The dog that normally would be on duty was recovering from surgery and the other is an explosives dog not for searching out people. |

I hear the police apprehended him within an hour. That was great work by them in this unfortunate situation. I’m glad to hear that they indeed do have dogs. The search and rescue dogs play such a vital role in apprehending these criminals and also missing children. Thanks! |

What serious steps do you suggest, Gadzooks? How do any of us --including city government or law enforcement -- stop this sort of random craziness? What has happened to us as a society that an 18 year old kid thinks it okay not only to carry a knife in his pocket but to use it to settle a disagreement?

The first thing, Citizen, would be for the city to finally acknowledge that crime is rising...and it's not just the personal property crime Everett has always had. It's more violent now and it's spreading. The mayor and the chief need to put a comprehensive anti-crime plan into place, starting with some community meetings that includes not just our political leaders, but the churches, the police, and neighbors. We have to show that we care; apathy will kill Everett faster than anything else. It's been ages since PAC-TAC, and it's time to start that up again. |

Thursday’s Everett Stabbing Now Considered Homicide EVERETT – Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone and Everett Police Chief Steve Mazzie informed the public today that Thursday’s stabbing in Everett is now considered a homicide. The victim, Sean Mooney, 37, of Revere, was pronounced dead today at Boston Medical Center. Jeffrey Raphael, 18, of Everett, was arrested in connection with the incident and arraigned yesterday, August 1, in Malden District Court, on a charge of armed assault with intent to murder. He was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Tuesday, August 5. “We have one defendant in custody in connection with this incident and we intend to take the necessary steps to upgrade his charge to reflect the homicide,” District Attorney Leone said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family,” Chief Mazzie said. "I want to commend the work of our officers, as well as the Massachusetts State Police and Transit Police, for apprehending this suspect so quickly after the stabbing." According to authorities, Everett Police responded to a 911 call at approximately 5:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, on reports of a man who had been stabbed in the neck. Police arrived at the corner of Ferry Street and Blanchard Avenue to find the victim, Mooney, suffering from a stab wound to the neck. Mooney was transported to Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett where he was treated for his injuries. Everett Police and Massachusetts State Police commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the stabbing. Based on that investigation, they began a city-wide search for the suspect. A canine unit from the Massachusetts Transit Police also joined the search. At approximately 6:00 p.m., authorities apprehended Raphael inside 11 Foster Street in Everett. He was placed under arrest at that time. Mooney was later transferred to Boston Medical Center for further treatment. He was pronounced dead this morning. An autopsy is still pending. These charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The prosecutor assigned to the case is Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Keeley. The case is being investigated by Everett Police and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. |
