August 1, 2008 Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MAYOR, POLICE AND FIRE, CHIEF TO MEET REGARDING SAFETY INITIATIVES In response to recent isolated incidents, Mayor Carlo DeMaria Jr. called special meetings with Police Chief Steven Mazzie and Fire Chief David Butler to discuss quality of safety in the city. “We’ve had some tragic incidents recently, my sympathies and condolences go out to all the families involved,” stated Mayor DeMaria. “I know our men and women in Public Safety do the best they can,” adds Mayor DeMaria, “I want my office to help them do more.” Police Chief Mazzie, discussed some recently publicized incidents, “The recent spike in violent crimes are not connected to each other and they do not appear to be random acts. The people of Everett should feel comfortable going about their daily activities.” The Mayor praised the police department on their quick response and apprehension of the assailants. The Mayor is pushing to new deploy new strategies, new technologies, and enhanced methods of community involvement, “We have to do everything we can to make sure the community continues to feel safe,” notes Mayor DeMaria, “I’m open to ideas, whether it’s text messaging tip lines, a stronger presence on the street, officers on bikes, more community gatherings, tougher fire regulations.” The Mayor urged both Public Safety heads to continue on their short and long-term prevention plans. “My plan is to invest in our community, to keep people in Everett,” states Mayor DeMaria, “initially what my office can do is help by strengthening our community programs, teen programs, get people involved with their city.” The Police Chief also pressed for strong community involvement. “We have been fortunate to have strong partnerships within the community to help prevent and deter crime over the years,” notes Chief Mazzie. “It is important for individual residents to stay informed and involved. We need additional eyes and ears to help us apprehend subjects that engage in behavior that is unacceptable to all those who live in the community.” The Mayor then recognized the men and women of the fire department who patrol the industrial area along the Mystic River. “The companies along the Mystic River have Fire Department details for a reason,” notes Mayor DeMaria, “the city enforces strict regulations with companies along the river, as with everything, prevention is the key to keeping the area safe.” For additional information please contact Matt Laidlaw, Director of Communications, City of Everett. Sean J. Mooney, 37
HVAC technician, enjoyed music
LYNN-Sean J. Mooney, 37, died unexpectedly in Boston Medical Center Saturday August 2.
Born in Everett, son of James S. Mooney of New Hampshire and the late Donna M. (Shea) Mooney, he attended Lynn Public Schools and resided in Lynn for most of his life.
He was employed as an HVAC Technician for ACD Refrigeration for several years.
Sean loved listening to music and enjoyed writing songs and playing.
In addition to his father, he leaves a son Ryan Mooney of AZ, a daughter Skylah Mooney of Beverly, two sisters Leslie Murphy and her husband Mark of Saugus and Leah Mooney of Dover, NH, his companion Heidi Freda of Everett, two nephews Jaron and Colin Murphy, one niece Jenna Mooney, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
