The streets are horrible today, what happened? We keep hearing the work inhouse but all I saw so many private contractors, what's up with that?
Did the services director go away too? |

I don't believe that the city has still received all of the new snow removal equipment. That was the status as of the city meeting held on January 8th that's currently playing on ECTV anyways. And according to Mr. Zaniboni at that meeting, the city won't be able to handle larger storms even with all of the new equipment. According to him, it's likely that they won't need to use larger pieces from outside vendors but, depending on the size of the storm, they still may need help with smaller plowing companies.
I believe that part of the problem with this storm may have been that a snow emergency was not declared. Not sure why that was. It was reported on Topix that Mr Zaniboni was in Aruba last week but I have now idea whether that was true or not and, if it is, whether or not he may be back.
I shouldn't complain though; my street was plowed down to bare pavement for the second straight storm. I might change my tune after I see how much is being spent on snow removal though. I know that it's a tough balancing act to get it right. My street seems to be getting plenty of plows passes but not much sand and/or salt. I don't know which would be cheaper and/or more effective. |

Well, I went out this morning and the side streets were literally impassable. I saw a lot of trucks out there yesterday driving around with the plows up. I also saw trucks plowing last night without any names on them. They were white pickup trucks. I never saw one city truck.
Absolutely a snow emergency/parking ban should have been called. This particular time was a big foul up. As I just got home, yes the street is down to the pavement, thanks to the melting.
I too am concerned with the costs, since I have not seen any sand or salt be distributed this entire winter. Since we are overrun, I'd like to know where that money went. It did not go to sand and salt, for sure.

If the two men in charge are both away, then who is charge? Gledhill and Elm st.s are horrible. Heres a case where the two shoudnt be away at the same time in the winter months. Who calls the emergency if both are away? Who ever they are they didnt do it. |
