It is a disgrace that Barrios is now running unopposed after Galuccio was forced out by Trav and the rest of the socialists in the state democrat party. The blue collar citizens of the City of Everett will continue to have no representation in the State Senate as long as Barrios is there. In-state tuition for illegals, driver's licenses for illegals, gay marriage. We can just thank our lucky stars that a SOCIALIST like Barrios was not elected Middlesex D.A. They wonder why people cannot get out of this pathetic state fast enough, and if Reilly or Patrick are elected Governor i suggest you head North as fast as you can because the first thing that will happen is a 2 1/2 override. I suggest you all vote Christy Mihos because the worst thing that could happen is for the Democrats to gain control of the Governor's office. REMEMBER MIKE DUKAKIS!!!!!!!!! PAUL D. DOBBINS

Wasn't Michael Dukakis one of the best Governers Massachusetts ever had? I was not yet a resident of Massachusetts when he was in office, but it seemed like he was doing so well it nearly landed him in the White House.

Michael - no, no he wasn't. He ran for office on a faux Massachusetts miracle, which sputtered and died under the weight of excessive borrowing and spending. If took us years to dig out from that mess. Unfortunately, the Dems keep trotting this guy out every four years, as if the Miracle were true. |

Robert Capra? Who is this guy? Evidently, a "media relations strategist" for Mayor Hanlon but...is he really on the planning board? And where the hell is the 12 step plan now, huh?
Robert Capra has more than ten years experience in journalism and public relations. He was a business writer for The Woburn Advocate and The Winchester Star, a writer and editor for Words At Work, a Boston-based business writing consulting firm that worked with John Hancock, Polaroid and others, and the special sections editor and member of the editorial board at the multiple-award-winning banking and commercial real estate publication Banker & Tradesman. Capra joined Topaz Partners from The Mishra Group, a Waltham, Massachusetts-based public relations firm, where he secured coverage for some of the region’s leading technology, commercial real estate and financial companies. His writing has appeared in Mass High Tech, The Boston Business Journal, The Houston Chronicle and other publications. Capra was also the media relations strategist for Mayor John Hanlon during his successful 2005 Everett, Massachusetts mayoral bid, and was subsequently appointed to the city’s planning board commission. Currently he is completing a master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communication (public relations focus) at Boston's Emerson College. |

I assume this guy lives in Everett, right? Because we wouldn't have someone appointed to a board that didn't live in the city? I'm not making an accusation . . . I'm just curious.
Here's something else I'm curious about. Does anyone know what the stipends are for the various boards. For instance, the Mayor raised the stipend for the Chair of the Board of Assessors from (I believe) $5,000 a year to $21,000 a year. Kudos to Alderman DiPerri for trying to bring this stipend back in line at $7,000/yr. Does anyone know what the annual stipend is for the Chair of the Planning Board? How about the Licensing Commission? Have the stipend for all the board chairs gone up, or just the Board of Assessors?

Robert Capra might be the guy up on Marie Avenue (where I used to live). He was my landlord. He and his father (I beleive another Robert Capra) are both life long Everett residents. If this is the same guy, I know him pretty well, at least for the year I lived there. I do know he is a Hanlon supporter. When I saw his name on the planning board in the meeting minutes back in January I raised an eyebrow, but haven't found out anything about it since. So, in short, it is the exact same name at the very least

Well, the more I look into it, the more unlikely it seems the son could be the same guy (He is about my age and is a singer/songwriter in a local band until recently). But it might be the father who would then be more in line age-wise with the other Hanlon appointees.

For real... I was just mentioning that most of the people working for Mr. Hanlon are older than me, and for good reason. It takes years to accumulate the kind of experience it takes to be effective in managing city matters. Also, Mr. Hanlon is fairly long in the tooth and it would follow that the people close to him would be older than me (I'm only 30).
This doesn't mean that people my age couldn't do the job just as well, (I think I could handle maintenance or the school department very well, for example, due to my experience in those areas), however it is more common to see someone in charge of a department being in their late 40s or beyond(as my parents or Rob's father would be)

Mr. Borgonzi has been reporting to Mr. Sheehan for about a month. Of course Mr. Borgonzi has not been forced to take a pay cut. Life as usual for Borgonz at $87.5K annual.
