So what's the difference if you are a city employee posting on Facebook or this blog? You are all still wasting the taxpayers money.

I agree with you Turk that no city employee should be posting on Blogs or anything else on the taxpayers dime, but who is it that is responsible for this and allowing it to go on for so long? Your there to work, not chat with friends online, and why is none of this being monitored? If one place should be monitored, that's the place. Your supposed to be up there for the taxpayers, since we are paying for all this.
After reading what I just read, it just further proves to me that immaturity and irresponsibility is coming out of that solicitors office. Look at the lies that have just been PROVEN under "Must Read Article"
Everett looks more and more like a laughing stalk everyday, with the lawyers looking more and more stupid. |

Facebook,My Space, Everett Average Citizen...... lets face it, we all stretch it a little and "check it out for a minute or so" whether we're at work or at home. It's what we do...we just can't help it!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem arising here is that when you are in a position of authority, a position where you are serving the public, you should have the"je ne sais quois, if you will, not to throw dirt at the people you serve. Public service, for those of us who have done it, do, do it, or would like to do it, truly is done for the love of public service. Its a fire in your belly and a way of life that you can't see yourself without.
It certainly IS NOT for the money. Done the right way, NO ONE gets wealthy working in government.
Working administratively for the city, state, or federal government is (and I TRULY mean this) 24/7; NO MORE.... NO LESS.
To work properly.... IT HAS TO BE THAT WAY!!!!
ANYONE who embarks in this field who isn't commited to that work ethic is in for a rude awakening.
It doesn't trouble me that an individual would take a minute or two to check the blog, Facebook, or My Space, etc. to take part in a lively, well thought out discussion. What does bother me is that you'd have a position such as this and not respect it enough or love it enough to appreciate it and/or the people you serve.

Crap! I've wasted a lot of time trying to find my way around and figure out which end is up. I think I'm just too damn old for that stuff.
I wonder who told her to delete it............. |

Is it true that Wayne M. filed for reconsideration on the Solicitor's raises? If so, it appears that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. |

That's exactly what I am hearing. I was told, unconfirmed, that a former city councilor who is the uncle of one of the assistant solicitors, Called Wayne on behalf of the mayor. Supposedly, this former councilor asked Wayne to put it on the agenda for reconsideration.
If true, I think Wayne is heading down a slippery slope. We will know when we see the agenda for the next BOA meeting. |

Maybe Alderman Wayne Matewsky needs a phone call or letter before the next meeting so he knows what the people think.

My problem is the mayor putting people on the payroll right now with all the cuts coming down. I have heard he has also added two more people to code enforcement and wants to give the solicitors office a raise. Then he goes and hires someone down the Rec Center. All after he spoke and basically said, layoff's are coming.
He didn’t come out and say it, but we all know it’s inevitable. Does he really need a PR person at $78,000.00? If the economy was terrific....well, maybe...but that's not a necessity or essential personnel.
I heard two people were hired in code enforcement. One salary is $45,000.00 and the other is $33,000.00. Now he wants to give raises when he promised NO INCREASE to that office, it was all in-house, blah blah blah. The right time to bring this forward is budget time, not now. Does he realize how many Everett residents have been laid off and will be laid off this year? Let’s start showing good faith in city government.
I agree we need a budget director but do we need a budget director’s assistant with NO experience making $50,000.00. If I remember correctly, that was the salary of the former budget director. He was the one that said he had qualified capable staff to do the budget and it was not a full time position. Now that salary line item is over $100,000.00. Makes no sense.
I also heard he is borrowing $250,000.00 for the MWRA storm phase 2 project. The spending and borrowing needs to stop.
How pathetic can you be calling Wayne asking for reconsideration? They are using Wayne and will end Wayne’s career. If Wayne is that stupid and doesn’t see it, then he seals his own fate.
Also, whether you like him or not is irrelevant, he is being used and that is not right. Bunch of sour grape losers.

If any of them have the balls to put that pay raise back on the agenda their political career should be over. It is not in the best interest of the people. If any of them vote for that increase their political careers should be over also. With the state cuts coming down and learning that one of the people looking for that raise likes to play during business hours there is no way to justify this. Someone needs to have the guts to put it all out there on the line. The city needs to stop this stuff. |

Wayne is a Dodo Bird who believes everything that is told to him. We all know there will not be increases in city hall with the exception of the union people. We all know layoff's are coming. We are talking overall......... huge salary increases here for these two lawyers. One hasn't even been a lawyer for 6 months. They knew perfectly well what the salary was taking the job. They are also in a position to serve the people of Everett. If that's not what they want, then they should go to a private firm. Barringer can go back to Rossi and stop having the taxpayers pay her salary. Let Thibeault pay it.
If they cant to a little extra (like everybody else does) without crying for more money from the taxpayers, then maybe they are not in the right positions.
Wayne really needs to think about it. Putting reconsideration back on the agenda (and we all know who asked him to) was a HUGE mistake for Wayne, and he will be sorry. The person that asked him to should be ashamed of himself for putting Wayne in that position, and the taxpayers. |
