There was an update in this week's Advocate lead story on the people who have pulled nomination papers for this fall's elections. I'll probably post the entire article tomorrow after it gets posted on the Advocate web site; their lead story usually get posted there. But I'll provide the updates now.

New Names (for the list anyways)

Common Council Ward 2
Joe King

Common Council Ward 4
Len LoRusso

Charter Review Commission
Claire Laidlaw
Brian Schurko Jr.
David Pretti

Also, as of today, according to Topix, Dennis J. DiBiase will be a candidate for Alderman from Ward 2.

Changes

According to The Advocate, Mike Mangan "appears committed" to running for Alderman from Ward 2.

Ray Grace (I'm assuming it's him) has stated on Topix that he has withdrawn from all races. The Advocate doesn't have him listed as a candidate for Alderman but still has him listed as a Charter Review candidate.

Again, according to The Advocate, the Lattanzi listed as running for Charter Review is Alfred not Doloris.

The names Bernie D'Onforio and Joseph Santigate don't appear on the Advocate's list. I wouldn't necessarily expect some of the more recent names to be there though.

Still Among the Missing

Leo McKinnon
Stat Smith

Does anyone know when the papers have to be returned for certification? Once that's done, is the information posted on the city website? It will be interesting to see if Marcus actually submits papers for all three positions............

It's not until some time in early August justme. The date has been mentioned but I can't recall it exactly. I want to say somewhere between August 5th to the 8th but don't hold me to that.

Marcus won't be able to submit papers for all three positions. He'll have to choose between the alderman and council races as the charter change to run for only one seat has been approved. However, because of the way that the change was applied to the charter (to a section that applies only to the election of Mayor, City Council and School Committee), there is a loophole that would allow him to run for a Charter Review seat as well.

I had no idea John Hanlon took out papers for Charter Review.

This thing seems to be getting more and more political.

According to this list, Jason Marcus and Mike Mangan are not running for Common Council - ward two..........is that correct?

I only ask because I know they did pull papers for both, and I thought you can only run for one. I didnt get it.

I see changes coming to wards 3, 4 and 5. That's a very good thing.

That's the way I read the article in the Advocate, Tails. It was their lead story so you can read it on their website now if you'd like.

I heard hanlon had taken out papers but was hoping the information was incorrect!

I'm hoping the voters of this city don't vote for anyone who is, was, or looks like they want to be, involved in local politics. What we need is people with no agenda of their own who want what's best for the city, not themselves.

Any idea how the Charter Review candidates will get their credentials out to the voters?

I saw Wayne Matewsky getting signatures. He is running for Alderman Ward 1, not Alderman at Large. The Advocate has that wrong.

Tetris - Won't you be hilighting the articles in our three newspapers anymore? I enjoyed reading your take on some of the articles. I did not receive any papers at all this week. Perhaps I missed something?

Socks,

There’s a couple of reason that my weekly look at what was in the local papers has stopped. First, I felt that in order for me to comment on what appeared in the papers, the majority of what I was commenting on also needed to be available for everyone to read and evaluate for themselves, both for people like yourself who may not have read it and for it to mean anything if someone went back to look at it in the future.

A few weeks ago, the practice of posting pieces that appeared in the local paper was questioned by a couple members of the board. In response to that, I posted the following statement. “…if it is the general will of the board to stop the practice, I have no problem with that; I just can't speak for anybody else who posts articles already.” Except for a couple of private messages that I received from Massdee and Tails, I didn’t receive any feedback to that statement. I took that as a vote of no confidence and have stop posting any content exactly as it appears in the newspapers. Without those postings, I feel that there no context for my weekly comments.

Secondly, the reason that I started the practice of those weekly comments was in the hopes of generating some discussion, not just getting my own opinions out here. As such, my efforts seem to be a failure. For the number of weeks that I did it, I was only able to generate two other comments in that thread. Between transcribing the pieces that aren’t available elsewhere on-line and doing the actual comments, it was a lot of work for something that didn’t seem to accomplishing its original goal. My constant lateness with it as time went on was a sign that it was becoming more of a chore than something that I was really enjoying doing. Another unsatisfied goal.

After three weeks, yours is the only inquiry that I’ve received about why the practice stopped. Again, Massdee and Tails were aware of reasons that I stopped. Truth be told, I still share some of my thoughts with them privately, albeit in a much shorter form, because they would have preferred that I did not stop. I hope that I’m not betraying any confidences ladies.

Again, I’m totally willing to accede to the general wishes of the board on this and any other matter. I don’t feel that my opinion (and/or selected others) are the only ones that should count on any subject.

Tetris, I am with socks. I miss your weekly updates.

BTW, I saw Stat Smith over the weekend and he told me he will be running for School Committee.

Well Tetris, I'm sorry to hear that. I, personally, do agree with most of your opinions. Although I don't contribute much, I am a faithful "lurker" so to speak (except for the times comments were printed about this piece.) Perhaps a few of the other loyal members
