And don't forget ignoring the IG's letter about Foresteire personal use of EPS personnel and supplies. That's a stand-up guy, all right. Mr. Honesty and Integrity.

Although the "budget' is on the front burner right now, (where it should be) let us not forget we still have the issues of the forensic audit and the Inspector General's letter about FFF yet to be resolved. It seems like every issue that comes up just muddies the waters more. |

The forensic audit is probably going to cost the city money rather than saving it and/or finding money. Many people in this city, for whatever reason(s) seem to think that the Inspector General's letter about Freddy is either resolved or don’t care. "Oh it’s only 7000 dollars" according to our mayor, like that’s ok. I mean who cares that HE DID USE EPS personnel and supplies.
Say what you want about Stat Smith, but concerning the school dept/committee and the mayor, I agree with him 100%. I hope he does run for school committee. He seems to be one of the few that actually watches the school committee and won’t let Freddy get away with anything. He at least tries and that’s all I ask as a voter.
Oh and if I talk about Hanlon or what he does, and for all your Hanlon supporters, I'm ending every post with:
Yup!!! Best mayor we ever had!!!!

If the Administration had presented their convoluted facts (fiction) differently about the audit and refrained from naming names and businesses, then the entire mess wouldn't have cost us beyond the $45K. Now this Administration has left the city wide open for law suits which we cannot afford. I hope these individuals whose good names were dragged through the mud can sue the individuals responsible on a personal level, too. |

Don't anyone fret about lawsuits Hanlon has top notch attorneys like Kryskic, Miller and Dragoone. With this much legal talent on the payroll no one can beat the city. |

Ah, tongue firmly in cheek penguin. Just the same I'm a bit concerned the city could be in for some more trouble from these lawsuits despite the immense legal talent you reference. |

And don't forget the ATB cases that are still pending. I can hear Mr. "plausible deniability" Krysovich now. "Your Honor...we may not believe we overtaxed DD; it may be that they have have misunderstood our assessments or it may simply be a misunderstanding all together. It could well be that we may need to revisit our assessment, but it might be that we may have done it right anyway. Nevertheless, let the record show that the City may consider an abatement if we might have overassessed the property. |

I've watched the budget meeting about 6 times. And I just realized this. Concerning the Devens School, why was Hanlon so evasive in his description of what was going in there? I mean from what he said it sounded like a boarding house or a halfway house. And I also would like to know who this developer from Chelsea is, and I believe that the mayor even said people from Chelsea would be coming here. I’m not 100% sure about that, I’ll have to watch the meeting for a 7th time, but I think he said something like that or on the lines of that. And I thought he was going to have either a town meeting or something to discuss with the citizens of Ward 5 about what was going to happen to the Devens. When is that going to be you think? 2 months after its sold?

Does anyone know if the Mayor has had the Devens School property appraised by an outside, independent appraiser -- as he is required to do by law -- before he put the property out to bid?

There was a free cash appropriation made to fund the appraisal after Smith smacked the mayor around for putting the schools out for bid the first time without an appraisal. I believe that the mayor said during Tuesday night that this latest bid was for more than what the appraisal came back at. Again, we have nothing to go by except his word which doesn't seems to worth much these days. |

I would want to know what appraisal company did the appraisal and see the actual paperwork before I would believe anything the Mayor said about anything. After all, this is a mayor who said the US Attorney was getting involved in an investigation as a result of the audit yet claimed there was no documentation to support this assertion.
So I agree, tetris . . . his word is suspect, to say the least.

He said the buyer from Chelsea offered $800K and the appraisal came in under that. I'm with you Citizen, I would like to see that paperwork. I hope someone in city government asks for it. |

Hello all I am new to this forum...but not new to living in this city. It was once great and I did love it but it seems like now it is in so much trouble. I was wondering if anyone can answer this question for me: What happens if the city runs out of cash??
It feels like with all the budget problems, no one should have been hired as soon as Hanlon took office. From what I have been told, the woman who owns Simonelli Realty, her husband was given a city job. What he needs that for...I have no clue |
