Did I miss something, did they take the School Committee issue up yet? I was on the phone and missed a couple of minutes. What happened?

I've only been getting bits and pieces as well . . . which explains why I missed that the $70K is only until June.

Mangan tried to take the piece back? He must be getting phone calls by the ton! But I'm just afraid this thing is a runaway train now . . . although, massdee, I must've missed it as well . . .

They probably sent it to Committee like they did items 13 through 16.

It's already been in committee . . . it was reported out of Finance. They're the geniuses who added the condition that the pay be retroactive to January 2007, I believe. So all they can do now is give it an up or down vote . . .

He tried to bring the piece back out for reconsideration I believe and they voted against it. It was later during the meeting. I turned it on around 7:30 and he was no whenre to be seen and all of a sudden after they discussed the audit he came back out and asked for #11 to be brought back, whatever that means.

Don't mean to sound like a idiot BUT, when they say they sent something to committee, what exactly does that mean?

It goes to committee for further review and discussion . . . to either give a recommendation to go forward, to recommend it to go forward with modifications, or to recommend that it not go forward. The final decision is up to the city council.

At the meeting last night, they said parking enforcement people will get $17.00 an hour plus benefits. Wouldn't it have made sense to offer these positions to Everett residents? I can't understand them not advertising these positions. I guess they must be being filled by family, friends, friends of friends, and family of friends. Another campaign promise broken.

Thanks CK.
Massdee I too believe that these parking enforcement people SHOULD be Everett residents. Let the monies spent on it stay within the city. And to not have advertised these positions ANYWHERE is unacceptable. We have THREE 3 LOCAL so called Papers that the job posting SHOULD have been in. That is inexcusable.

Some of the Council members last night seemed to have a problem with the amount of money that will be spent on the over night parking enforcement. I have the same concerns but on the other hand they didn't even discuss the salary increases on items 13-16 or talk about what the final cost of paying the School Committee will be. So we have no idea who is for these salary increases and who is not.

They'll still have to vote on that once it comes out of committee . . . and hopefully it's a roll call vote and not a voice vote. I think on anything involving money it has to be a roll call vote.

What we should do is find out when/if they're going to call an Administrative Affairs Committee meeting to discuss it. That would be an interesting meeting to attend, because that's where the greater discussion will probably take place, if it takes place at all. They usually post upcoming committee meetings on the weekly calendar, so I'm going to keep an eye out for that.

Imagine if the voters came out in force and attended the Administrative Affairs meeting, the members would sh*t, literally. I think it coming to a time when the residents need to be proactive and get their voices heard. Obviously most of our elected officials don't give a damn how we feel.
