We really all need to go to that meeting. I do not even want to say a word, just our presence will let them know that the taxpayers do not want this to happen.

I would take the night off from work to go and glare menacingly at them...Just to let them know we are not pleased...

They list them on the meeting calendars every week. I get the calendar, so if you like, I'll keep an eye out and let everyone know when it's scheduled.

Citizen, that would be great. Do they also list what is to be brought up at the meeting so we know that the School Committee issue will be discussed?

No, they don't list the agenda, but when we see that it's scheduled, we can call ahead and see what will be on the agenda.

I took this out of the Mirror Blog but thought it was well written so I copied it to share here... Hope anonymous doesn't mind.

The $70,000 is only until June! So after benefits, equipment, car usage reimbursement, jackets, walkie talkies, etc. this amount goes WAY up! try $300,000 a year for salaries and benefits.

And mines well add more onto that for the lawsuits just waiting to happen when one of the people gets their walkie talkie ripped from their hands and thrown into someones yard in the dark and then attacked. Too late to call the cops via the walkie talkie. Or the loon who is mad he got a ticket the night before and sits and waits to jump the civilian officer for revenge.

Would you walk around this city alone during 12:00 am to 6:00 am alone in the dark with a walkie talkie as your protection? I mean the city is not even safe in broad daylight, shootings, home invasions, etc.

And I think it is ridiculous these jobs were not public posted in the papers or on ECTV. When Mr. Henderson said well we found these people word of mouth. What does that say? These are all friends of someone at city hall.

You watch they will be told to write a ticket quota and start ticketing cars that have a sticker but it is covered by the evenings snowfall to make that quota.

The Mayor as Mr. Henderson has said has made his decision and this is going to be the way.

I don't care what the audit says that they can use this money. It is stealing from Peter to pay Paul.

And this money will have to come out of taxpayers pockets eventually because where they take the money from that was allotted for something else will now need to be replaced. By who you ask? The taxpayers!

I just finished looking through the Leader Herald. Did you happen to notice all the pages of pictures from the School Dept.? I wonder what that cost? Did we really need to see that many pictures of the School Committee? Here we go again, paying for elected officials to toot their own horn. That money could have been better spent on school programs. A few pictures of the kids and one or two of the Governor would be fine, I think the amount of photos was over kill.

Same thing in the Independent yesterday. Probably the same thing in the Advocate tomorrow.

If they want the School Committee to receive a salary, then maybe they should try curtailing some of their spending and find the money in their own budget to fund the new salaries. What a concept, being fiscal responsible.

There you go, massdee . . . making sense again . . . ;-) . . .

Remember, in the state audit, it was discovered that these "photo ops" were being paid for through Shore Collaborative with money earmarked for special ed. I'm guessing that, with a little investigation, we'd find history repeating itself.

I know I'm being naive, but wouldn't it be nice if our elected officials would spend our tax dollars the same way they would spend their own personal finances. What do we need to do, have a monthly audit of city government, or at least a spot check. They need to be kept on their toes and not know when "Big Brother" is looking over their shoulders.
