I just heard Lorrie Bruno and Leo McKinnon speak. Ms Bruno was correct, she should have received an apology from Mr McKinnon and the Mayor. But of course, neither of them are man enough to give her an apology. |

Doesn't Mass General Laws override any City of Everett Ordinances? It sounded to me Lorrie Bruno is correct that the School Committee will be able to get Health Benefits, since they are being paid as stated in the Mass General Laws. What do you think? |

If I understand it correctly, the City Council would have to pass an ordinance indicating that the School Committee would not be eligible to receive health benefits; otherwise, it would follow the MGL that provides that they would be eligible to receive them.
It's all very nice that the current School Committee has agreed not to take advantage of the health benefits, but unless these guys have a lifetime appointment, the next newly elected person coming onto the School Committee could say "hey, I want to take the city's health insurance, the law says I can, and you guys have nothing that says I can't" -- and then a whole new can of worms gets opened, my friends.

you watch anyone running for the school committee and who does not have health insurance will now have it. And I believe it's true that Mass General Laws over-rides city ordinances

If Joe McGongagle gets in for mayor what a mess he has to clean up. Hanlon will be a one time mayor and that is that |

Nice that the letter sent to Hanlon about Foresteire was not brought up.

Sally, I really thought one of the ladies on the Council would have added it to the agenda. I also read through the Independent and no mention there either. (I am not surprised) The Independent did mention the "Anonymous" letter. |

Was Resnek defending McKinnon for having it read? I havent' gotten the paper delivered yet. He sort of defended it last week; I'm wondering if he changed his tune this week. |

It reads like he is against it being talked about at the CC meeting. |

The Pup informs me that Councilman McKinnon has been hobbling around on crutches as of late. It is said that he was assaulted by a few inmates who wanted to teach him a lesson.
He makes friends everywhere!
And yes, this is the same man who told the police chief during a meeting last year that the police should "get out there and bust some heads".
Very eloquent politician.
We should all be proud of him representing us(sarcasm, of course..... for those of you who think I'm serious).

Be careful, Emile; you're going to make him angry. That's what he said about the comments made about him in the Advocate last week -- that they made him "angrier than he should be." Sounds like the good Councilman might have some issues controlling his temper.
He's going to make Council meetings a lot of fun now, though because he's apparently now going to bring forward every piece of constituent mail that he receives for discussion before the Council.
What a dope. |

He is not the type of guy who you would say has a bad temper. I am surprised at all of this.

I'm glad you've seen a different side of him, Sally; but in the final analysis, he was wrong to bring this letter forward, and he just dug his heels in further last night. He sounded ridiculous. |

The Pup and I think that some of our politicians forget that they represent the general public. They seem to take everything personally and they react poorly in situations where decorum would be better served.

First off I would like to state that I believe any letter not signed should NOT be read at a Council or Alderman meeting.
I have a hard time pinning the whole blame for this on McKinnon though.
Apparently,Ms. Bruno knew about the contents of the letter before the meeting and since it was on the Council agenda she could/should have stopped it from being read.
Second, didn't the President of the Council have the authority to stop the letter from being read or shouldn't he have at least looked at it before it was read ?
When the Clerk was reading the letter he kept saying things like "oh boy" and "wow" showing the letter was out of line.
Seems to me the letter should have had no chance of being read at the meeting and that both the Council and Aldermen should pass a rule against the reading of UNSIGNED letters in the middle of a meeting.
Councilor McKinnon made it clear that he would do this again if the opportunity presents itself so it should be dealt with one way or another now.
If I missed something I stand to be corrected but that was my take on it. |
