I think the police did a good job on parking tickets before all of this enforcement nonsense. They got tired of complaints from people who do not realize there are much more important things for the police to handle at times. They cannot always be out tagging cars. So, they handed it off to parking enforcement. I think it was a huge mistake. I do not see many tickets on my street anymore because people learned their lesson and got a permit. We just had a new tenant move in and we made sure to tell them to get a temporary permit until they register their car in Massachusetts. I was listening to the scanner while getting the kids ready for school and the police pulled over 6 or 7 cars on Waverly Street for speeding. They are out there and they are busy. There never seems to be a time of day or night when they have nothing better to do than go up and down the streets looking for parking violations. I do believe when they are not on a call that is what they should be doing , I just do not see that they could make everyone happy.

Sally, when I called the EPD last night, they also told me there is no "parking consideration" for any reason. Since you have heard parking consideration on the scanner, I guess I was misinformed. By the way, I did not get a ticket last night, luckily. |

I am glad to hear you did not get a ticket. I wish they would get their stories straight because they do give parking consideration at times.

Sally Parking consideration is given you must call 617 387 1212 and get the dispatcher name and they give it out. i.e. probably not for parties but for death in the family, or family gatherings. |

streetsmart, that is the number I called last night and the dispatcher said there is absolutely no "parking considerations" given out for any reason. She was actually a little rude about the whole thing. I was told, "don't blame us, your CC and BOA caused this, talk to them." |

then I would of call the police no 617 389 2120 and talked to the officer in charge of that shift. I never heard of this in all my times I used parking consideration. other ways to pass the buck in this city. |

I was wrong, I didn't notice the ticket this morning when I checked but it was there just now when I went out to the car. Even when you try, you can't do the right thing in this city. |

I just came from talking to Mr Kelley about my parking problem. He told me pretty much what I was told from the EPD last night. You have to know ahead of time if you are going to have an overnight guest and get a visitors pass during the week Monday through Friday, you need to have their registration number and proof of your address. If your company comes in unexpectedly on a Sunday night there is absolutely nothing you can do to prevent a ticket. There are absolutely no "parking considerations" for anyone. This car will be here one more night, so I had to pay the $25.00 ticket and the $10.00 visitors pass fee, $35.00 to park two nights in this city for a guest. They really need to fix this, I tried from the minute they arrived to prevent this. It is ridiculous. If it's going to be enforced on a Sunday night, Monday morning, there has to be a way for us to get a visitors pass. |

Start making phone calls. At the very least you should be able to go to the police station with proof of residency and get a pass when city hall is closed.

What we need, like the city of Malden, is to have visitor placards that we can keep in our homes. I cannot even tell you how much money I have given for visitor parking since the beginning of the year. My entire family lives out of state, most times I know they are coming, so we are okay. The people who try to do things the right way are the ones that get penalized. This city is quickly becoming an unfriendly place to live and visit. |

Mr Kelly tried to get the CC & BOA to approve a visitor pass for every household, but Chuck DiPerri didn't like that idea & fought it. Make the calls & let them know this doesn't work for you and you want it changed. If we don't make the calls, it won't get changed.
You're right massdee, the people trying to obey the laws get jammed while the ones who don't care are also the ones that don't pay! It happens all the time the majority get punished because of what the minority does. |

What I have previously heard is that you can call and request consideration. They cannot give you "permission" to illegally park cars. You leave your name address and phone number and if there is a problem with the parking in the area such as the road being impassible or a complaint from other residents they call you back and make you get the vehicles moved. I don't believe this was changed. It was just a courtesy without ignoring public safety or resident complaints. |

I believe in Cambridge, where I think they have 24 hour resident parking, you can pay a $25 annual fee for a visitor parking pass, which you keep at your home for potential unexpected guests. I don't see why we can't do this here. Will there be a few who take advantage of it and use it for the wrong reasons? Sure. But for people like massdee, who are law abiding and who I like to believe make up the majority, it's a fair and equitable way to do things.

Somerville too. They get one and pay the fee every year. We need that here.

Just understand if we go in that direction here it may cause a problem. You would be effectively doubling the number of vehicles allowed to park on the streets. The unscrupulous could allow people not registered in Everett to take their visitors pass to avoid ticketing. This would kind of defeat the whole purpose of the ordinance. I would only be in favor of it if it had some limitations. Maybe if you allowed a pass that was only good for a certain number of days. The day you wanted to use it would have to be written on it before placing it on the visitors car. Once the alloted days were used up you would have to obtain a new one. This would keep fraudulent use to a minimum. |
