It wouldn't be mandatory that you buy the visitor's pass. And if the parking enforcement personnel are going around on a regular basis, they'll start to recognize a visitor's pass being used in what seems like a frequent basis. Something does need to be done to address the issue, though. There are going to be times when someone is going to have an unexpected overnight visitor. It's not a perfect solution . . . but it's worth looking into, I think |

You said that before Chuck & that's why none of us have a visitor pass & we're paying through the nose when we have overnight guests. We're tremendously inconvenienced and there are plenty of cars parked with placards hanging from their mirrors. What's the difference?
Will there be people taking advantage of the situation? You bet! There's always someone that's going to cheat. The question is will it be the majority? I don't think so. I'd be willing to give it try for the sake of those people like massdee. What we've got now certainly isn't working................ |

As it stands right now, you better not have any unexpected overnight guests arrive any time City Hall is closed. So, our company needs to arrive, Mon. 8AM- 7:30PM, Tue., Wed., and Thurs. 8AM-4PM and Friday 8AM-11:30PM. It is foolish that there is no possible way to prevent a ticket. |

Ya know what, if the Parking Enforcement was not doing their job you would be here all upset that there are cars on your street that dont belong. Your dammed if you do and dammed if you dont. There is just no satisfying people. |

No, there is a happy medium. We should be allowed to have company without worrying if city hall is open, or paying a 25$ ticket.

Where do you see me saying anything about the enforcement? All I am saying is that they need to get the kinks out of the program so we can get a visitors pass somehow when City Hall is not open. |

Funny but if we did away with the common usless I mean council and formed a sworn traffic committee to handle all the traffic issues IE.. like Somerville,The peoples Republic of Cambridge and Malden and everywhere else in the DAM country we might actually get somewhere not to mention save the city $ as well. This poor bastard Paul Kelly has to handle all this crap on his own which has got to be one sucky job. Everyone hates meter maids they rank up there with foreign cab drivers who butcher the english lanuage and take you the long way to your desination. Being a metermaid has got to be one of the most thankless jobs there is everyone hates you.
Anyway I dont get off topic but I'm sorry people we need a duly sworn traffic commision to handle our traffic issues soley, and they should work hand in had with the police dept. Now dont get me wrong our cops could and should not be complaining about writing tickets they should seriously STOP the whining, its there job and they knew it when they signed up, all there crying about writing tickets carries no weight with me when I see not 1 not 2 not 3 but sometimes 4 or more cruisers sitting in Dunkin Donuts parking lot with them inside drinking coffee and stuffing there faces with donuts that most of them shouldnt be eating in the 1st place.
But then again what a great job they have thats the only job where they tell us what to do, and we pay there salary's. And when they dont want to do something they bitch they have more important things to do.
If so what is that? Stuffing your fat ass's with donuts all dam night? I say the police should stop there whining and do there job, they make themselves look like idiots when they cry and moan. If I ever told my boss "hey I dont want to do that I dont have time I have more important things to take of" Oh by the way do ya want anything at dunkins while I'm there"? I would be fired Johnny on the spot no ifs ands about it.
My point is the cops should stop whining and do there job when they can,and that includes writing tickets.
Boy do I wish I was Mayor those cops would be out there writing tickets every free moment they had, and if they didnt they would be working security for wack a slut I mean whackenhut.
Jeez this city drives me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The cops did not whine, the citizens did. They were upset that the cops were not consistent with their ticket writing. They seem to forget there are actually crimes going on in the city and the police have to deal with the crime over the parking tickets. The dunkin donuts story is old. I never even see cops in there, and if they are in there it would be during their break time. Just like every other job they get breaks and lunch/dinner.

The city is the size of a postage stamp. There are 100 men on the force. They have cars, radios, weapons, they are called "patrol"men. You want me to believe that they can't figure out a way to ticket vehicles that are standing still over a six hour period while they are on "patrol". I thought "patrol" means that they drive up and down all the streets in the city. How long does that take. How long does it take to write a few tickets along the way. It should be a routine part of the job. At night and during the day. Along with traffic issues. All of which brings in more revenue, which could pay for more men, cars, equipment, etc.
Larger cities manage to do these things. Why does Everett have such a problem. I've heard all kinds of excuses over the years. Now it seems few citizens on foot can get this job done. I don't buy the excuses. I don't think expecting people to do their job should be called whining. It's not like they are under paid. Which was one of the excuses years ago. |

Hey Massdee, do you have a driveway? I was just wondering if you did you should have parked your car on the street and put your guest's car in the driveway. That's what I do when my mom stays over. I don't even bother getting a visitor's pass. I don't want to pay for the pass, I'm cheap. LOL |

The city is small, with lots of crime. The cops do patrol streets and write tickets when they are not on a call. They come down my street all the time and ticket. What I am saying is that if it is a busy night with calls, they may not get to every street.

whatsup, I do not have an available driveway to use. We have a 1 car driveway in a two family house, the other family has use of the driveway. My only option is a visitors pass. |

What calls do they get at that hour. Everything is closed. How many burglar alarms or noisy parties can there be. Isn't there more than one car out. How hard is it to ride down the street slowly and look at the windshields for stickers. You can see them plain as day. There are six hours. The cars are standing still. Stop making excuses there is none. They just did not want to do it. That's why the civilians had to do it. How come a few people on foot can get it done, but patrolmen in cars could not. The same streets that they are supposedly already patroling. |

jcklla. I think you need to invest in a Police Scanner if you think that NOTHING goes on when everything is closed for the night. Wow... do you even live here in this City? No-one could be that blind. |

Exactly Lynda! I am up very late most nights and I leave the scanner on. You JCklla would be surprised at the number of calls. There are medical aid, car accidents, LNG tankers coming in, shoplifters, drag racing at stop and shop everynight, domestics, drunks, and more.
