Give me a break. Stabbings and shootings. How often does that happen. Not every night. Not even every week, thankfully. No shopliftings if everything is closed. As far as everything else goes you talk as though there is only one car. What do they do, some drunk stumbles out of a bar and they send 3 or 4 cars. If they do, then that's just poor management of resources. If they were patroling like they are supposed to be a lot of things would not happen. Accidents happen because too many people that should have been pulled over for speeding or other agressive behavior are not pulled over in the first place. The agressive drivers should be pulled over 24 hours a day. It's another example of not patrolling, their job is not to be responders, they are supposed patrol looking for the trouble makers. Like drug dealers, agressive drivers, loud gatherings etc. Like I said before the city is tiny, I know stuff goes on. You talk as though there is only one car at night. They are a force of 100 men. |

Stabbings are pretty commom lately. So are late night armed robberies of people walking home from the bus stop or where ever. You need to buy a scanner, you would be amazed.

I never even see cops in there, and if they are in there it would be during their break time. Just like every other job they get breaks and lunch/dinner.

Trust me I understand there are worse things in this going which take presedence over parking tickets, and I know all about taking a break. And I'm not sure if your up late at night or have driven by in the early morning hours and seen the number of cruisers parked out side dunkin donuts for time lengths that far extend past a normal break time. And as far as the story being old, you are absolutely 100% correct it is old which is what makes it even more disgusting is the fact that it continues to this day.
Dont tell me there time couldn't be better spent by driving around writing tickets (which IS in there job description). There is no reason they cant get off there lazy ass's and drive around being visible in neighborhoods writing tickets. I think that would time (and money) better spent, just think of the crime it could deter. A cruiser driving down streets late at night or early morning hours could help prevent thefts, break ins and the list goes on.

Wow, are there some clueless posts going on here. Buisnesses like Dunkin Donuts, Walgreen's, Sunoco gas stations, Little Peach, Store 24 are open 24/7/365. There are shopliftings, armed robberies etc. at all hours of the day and night. Granted not every night thankfully. But mix in alarms, domestics, loud parties, car accidents, snow emergencies. Theres plenty for them to do besides resident parking. The move twords civilian ticket writers was the right one. The police could do the job on some nights but not on others. The inconsistency was driving us crazy. Having people whose only purpose is to enforce this program was the best thing the city could have done. I know some of you agree with me on this but some others clearly do not. They need to wake up to reality here. This is not 1977 when nothing was going on in this city. Geez jcklla, do you think they staff the overnight shift with 100 men? Get a grip. |

MM,
I speak only for myself but dont tell me for one minute these cops dont have time to ticket, because thats bull****.They can and they do have time to do it. Now I'm not nor did I ever say nor attempt to convey the cops dont have there work cut out for them in this small city, because they certainly do. But one thing you could never convince me off is that they didnt whined about being told they had to write more tickets, because they did whine and they still do, give me a break. They just have you duped into thinking they have so much more on there plate that they CANT do it, again bull****. The bottom line is they dont want to do it, its that simple.
However that does not take away from the fact that regardless of who does it, it needs to get done. I do agree that hiring metermaids or whatever they call themselves now to do it was a good idea at least its getting done. So what if there also tagging cars not of this city ie Revere,(just kidding **** happens). I think this should of been done along time ago, but dont try and sell me the idea the cops cant be doing it as well, because they can they just dont want to.
I mean hey dont get me wrong if I was a cop I wouldnt want to write tickets either, but make no mistake about it I would especially if it was part of my job description. Hell I do alot of things at work I dont particularly enjoy but I do it, its my job. And I certainly dont whine about it, like they do. |

Joe, I know Mr. kelly at city hall. The police always did and still do write tickets for resident parking as of this time. If you don't believe me just go ask him. I'll concede that they may have been able to write a few more than they did. They were never going to be able to do the consistent job that would be required to make the program effective. The combination of the new people plus the police is working well. Why the complaints? |

The police write lots of tickets everynight. Again I say, buy a scanner. I used to be critical of the police until I realized just how many calles they go out on a night. And they did not whine, the citizens did. They want every street tagged, every night. That would be nice but there are much more important things to handle. I do not think everyone understands they also have to get paperwork done during every shift. And again I say I do not see cops in Dunkins.

Every car on my street now has a yellow sticker. About time. Wonder how many actually belong to the cars they are on. But, what are these people hired to do this job to do when every street is complete like mine? Are any of them hired as temps? |

No, they are all full timers, with benefits. What a waste of money.

Did they not realize that that position would not be needed indefinitely? That sooner or later people would smarten up? It worked great but, what is done is done, move on... is there ANYTHING else that they could give these "out of towners" to do? |

No Lynda, they're not temps and I understand the mayor wants to add three more soon. If you remember, there originally were supposed to be six but the CC & BOA had issues so they decided to start with 3 and see how it worked out.
They're supposed to be verifying the sticker & plate match & if they don't, the ticket is $300.00! I saw someone pay one Monday night. Ouch!
If they're ever allowed to write tickets for other parking violations (the police have an issue with that), we may be able to keep the three we have busy, but certainly not six! |

Hey massdee,
I'm sorry you are in that situation. I think it's sort of unfair for people who do obey laws and try to be a good person. But it's always those people that get screwed and not the ones who purposely break the law and find ways around the rules.
I myself know a lot of the officers and don't see them "hanging out" at DD. That is such a stupid thing to say. A lot of activity goes on in this city all the time 24/7. 100 cops to cover all those shifts I still don't think is enough. And one thing to know is that at night there are actually less officers on duty than during the day. Most of the calls are not critical but then there are those ones that are and all available officers will respond. I think the Everett Police do a good job and if putting off writing tickets for overnight parking happens it's due to a more pressing issue. That would be why they hired civilians to do the job. Good for them. And where do I sign up for that gig? I would be ruthless.
The parking clerks office take a lot of sh** from people who are ignorant and refuse to educate themselves on public policies in this city. I've been witness to people swearing and telling them they didn't know the red sticker expired. Hello, it was in the paper like every week for 3 months. I have 4 kids, work and still found the time to go there on the first day the yellow stickers were available. People need to pay attention and realize the world does not revolve around them.
Again, massdee that is an unfortunate situation for you and I understand your frustration. Like I said before, law abiding citizens get screwed while the rest get away with breaking the rules. |
