Senator Schoeffhausen??
The Pup really likes the sound of that.
or perhaps, Mayor Schoeffhausen?
Court, do you have an answer for "justme"?
I seem to remember Jane Swift had a considerable fortune when she went out to farm, so to speak.

After a waiting period they get to keep the money as their own. |

Yes, it's a very nice perk. I thought that was what they used to do and it was changed. It hardly seems right especially since many politicians, at least on a national level, are wealthy in their own right! |

I believe they can keep the money for a certain amount of time, not quite sure what the timeframe is. Also, and im sure someone will correct me if i am wrong but i believe all they have to do is just say publicly every once in a while that they are considering running for this or considering running for that and that buys them some more time. Any questions on who watches the money or if they have to file campaign finance reports i would say call Bill Galvin on that one. PAUL D. DOBBINS. |

MGL Chapter 55
Dissolution of a Committee Committees that have no cash balance, assets or outstanding liabilities and wish to dissolve may do so, as long as the candidate represented by the committee does not still hold elected office. Candidates and committees that do not dissolve must continue to report on a regular basis. All residual funds from committee or candidate accounts must be donated to any of the following: (1) the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Local Aid Fund; (2) the general fund of a city or town; (3) a scholarship fund; or (4) a charitable or religious organization. Donations to scholarship funds and charities are subject to certain restrictions. Contact OCPF for more information. Treasurers of committees are required by law to preserve detailed accounts, vouchers and receipts for six years from the date of the relevant election. This statutory provision applies to all political committees organized in Massachusetts. |

Okay. The bottom line here is they don't benefit from the money. They can't just put it in their pocket and walk away........ |

Thank you, MassDee. Let's hope that the Honorable Mr. Barrios chooses Massachusetts Local Aid as his charitable cause, given this fondness for increasing taxes.
He really is a piece of work. First he decides to run for DA...then decides he wants his old Senate seat back and "clears" the field....for a mere six months in the seat...which will now cause a special election.....which will now cost the taxpayers in Everett, Chelsea, Revere, Cambridge, Saugus, et al...
Nice guy. Real thoughtful and considerate. |

I'm not real happy about this either, but it's possible he's doing this because right now he needs to devote more time to the family. With two children (I believe at least one of them is a teen) it's certainly reasonable to put them first. Perhaps this new position will give him more "normal" hours allowing him to focus on the family. |

As far as the money issue, I seem to remember Jane Swift actually spending and or contributing to other politicians with her campaign cash. It was definitely something like that. It infuriated me at the time.

Well, Jane Swift isn't very so what she did was bound to be dumb! We can only hope he sends some of it in Everett's direction! |

It's tough to take his side here I think. He knew he had his kids to take care of before he ran for re-election did'nt he? He is appearing to be the type that will jump at any offer he feels is better than the one he currently has. No loyalty to those who voted him in or worked to get him where he is now. |

Things change very quickly with children MM. What was working well last week can very quickly fall apart. You may be correct in your assessment of him, all I was doing was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. There was a time I found myself making choices that were necessary for my children, that I really didn't want to make. Maybe he's doing the same................ |

In one of the news releases, Barrios stated it wasn't about the money, that his partner makes plenty in his profession.
So.....if he says it isn't about the $$$$$ and he's so concerned about his kids, then be there for them.
Be a stay-at-home mom....or dad.....or domestic partner....or whatever.
I guess i'm cranky tonight....
