Looks like we'll be able to look forward to an exemption every election year............... better than never getting one!

I felt like there was a little bit of backlash going on tonight towards Rosa DiFlorio. Yes, she seemed liked she wanted to have complete control over the process but if they didn't like what she was proposing, why weren't they proposing any alternatives?

The mayor is right...there won't be any Prop 2 1/2 override. From the little research that I've done, the city council has to approve the question appearing on a ballot. I have serious doubt that it would make it past that vote with all that has happened in the last month.

What is the point of voting against the amended budget because the cuts aren't deep enough if you haven't been proactive in fighting for additional cuts?

What happens if the BOA doesn't agree with the budget as amended tonight? Time is running out...

Realistically, they can't make intelligent decisions without speaking directly with the department heads. They voted on a cut to the parking clerks office that would have eliminated an employee if it passed. That might look good for the budget, but I don't know how the department would manage. They're out straight all the time, what was the point of trying to eliminate an obviously necessary position?

Rosa was trying to do the the right thing for the taxpayer, but she really doesn't have the knowledge or experience to lead the parade. If you don't know what it takes to run a department, you really shouldn't be trying to make the decision about cuts without some imput.

This whole thing has been a complete disaster and it's not going to get any better anytime soon.

Yes Masterful1, Carlo is looking better and better and it is scary!

Why not cut the parking enforce dept hires? They have stopped making money from what I heard and didn't the Eagle say that he would let them go if it didn't pay for itself?

As usual, you've all made some great points, and I'm even in agreement that Carlo is starting tp look good. Like I said, we've all fallen down the giant rabbit hole, and I,m exhausted by the trip.

Good night, my friends!!

I'm hearing they're still writing plenty of tickets and they'd write more if the police would let them do more than resident violations.

Oh well, I've had enough for tonight too!

Good night...............

Okay, so what can we as residents and taxpayers really do about any of this? We have to foot the bill, however, we cannot have a say in any of the budget hearings and where we think our tax dollars should go. We vote in the members of the CC and BOA only to regret it when we watch them at their meetings. Then, we have to wait another year so we can vote them out. What happens in the meantime? Our tax dollars are spent foolishly and we are stuck with incompetancy. I ask you, short of another Boston Tea Party - what can we really do?

You pretty well covered it Fedup.............

Actually, I think a charter change could help us. If we had fewer elected officials, there's a possibility that in addition to more competition, we might get lucky and manage to elect some that weren't hiding when the brains were passed out. It could also help with the complacency we've seen lately. We might want to reconsider casting votes for those cc members that didn't bother to participate in the budget process.

That's exactly what is needed, justme. I think if this process showed us nothing, it showed us just how many members of the common council have outlived their usefulness. Leo McKinnon would be the first to go if it were up to me, followed closely be Matewsky and Simonelli. Disgraceful.

Don't forget Sierra. I don't believe he attended any of the budget meetings, did he? Where has Billy Cardillo been the past few meetings? And Millie Cardillo came in last night just in time to go home. Do either Joe King or Kay Hicks have a clue what's going on?

There are so many I'd like to see gone......... I better stop now before I get too carried away!

Did anyone else notice that Simonelli voted NO on everything that his vote would not make a difference in the finial tally of votes?

Lynda, he has done that throughout the total budget process. He's another one that needs to lose his seat on the council. What a disgrace that meeting was last night. If the BOA don't agree with the CC's cuts from last night, time is running out and we will be in even deeper crap, than we are now. Could they have voted not to accept the mayors budget and bought themselves more time? I thought they could do that 1/12th budget for three months?

I don't think they let him talk at home and the No's make him feel important.
