We are going to see more houses going up for sale and we will lose more of our lifetime residents. People just can't afford to stay here anymore. I have five generations in this city and now we are contemplating leaving. We own a home in a different New England state that we have always used for vacation, now we think we will probably be off loading Everett and moving there sooner than we had planned. |

Budget meetings start tonight at 6:00 PM. I believe tonight will be the School Department. Does City Government have any control over the School Department's budget or is this just a formality that they have to present their budget to City Government? |

If they have some control over the school budget, I sure would like to see the advertising budget cut! I don't see full-page ads as being educational. |

I think that it is now time that we force our city newspapers to report the real story of what is really going on in our city. And its not that hard to do if we all stick together. We all know that it takes money to run a newspaper, and a newspaper needs revenu to servive,I don't care how much money the owner has,he's still a buisnessman! They depend on there ads, if the advertisers even looses one customer due to an ad in any paper they will pull that ad!So if we boycott the advertisers buisnesses in Everett and chelsea and tell them why, just maybe it will have some efect on the newspapers! |

Everyone needs to turn on their TV. The truth has finally came out....if the budget isn't cut, we could be facing a Proposition 2 1/2 override. The last nail is in going into the Hanlon coffin. |

They cannot legally pass this budget as presented under prop 21/2. I like this auditor, he seems very honest and forthright. |

I agree. The auditor was brutally honest, which is rare with this administration. This is maddening, and frightening, and I agree, tetris -- if there was any question about Hanlon's tenure as Mayor, that question was answered today. He's done. |

I did not see the first half hour of the hearing. Did they happen to say why certain members of the CC and BOA were not present?
I am more and more impressed with Rep. Smith every time I hear him speak. It also appeared that the members of the CC and BOA present at the hearing were all on the same page.
Tetris.....you are right, Hanlon has no hope of ever being re-elected.......he is all done. The nerve of the man...to submit that budget. I am disgusted with that whole Administration, except Mr. DeCoste. |

I can't believe they had the audacity to not mention the possible need for an override!
Well, the budget has been sent back to the administration to make the cuts and bring it back Tuesday @ 6:00. It will be interesting to see who, what, & where they cut!
I didn't see the start of the hearings. Was there any information provided regarding where the missing members of city government were? I can't think of many things more important than this budget although I realize there are a few. How many weddings and funerals were scheduled today? |

Missed the first twenty minutes myself. Caught the end of Barry Doyle's testimony. He did a pretty good job of throwing Vetrano under the bus. He basically stated when questioned by McGonagle, that the budget that he submitted wasn't really reflected in the one that he was be asked to defend; but, being a good employee, he would try to work with it. I wasn't really sure that Doyle was a good appointment when he got the job but, at this point, he is the only member of the administration that I have any respect for besides Mr. DeCoste. |
