There's just no limit to his arrogance, is there . . . so people should get 6% pay increases; he doesn't need to cut money out of his administrative surplus account, as the auditor suggested he should, not to mention the other items the auditor mentioned?

Do you think it's because he knows he's all done and he's just trying to wreak as much havoc as possible before he goes????

I hope the city council chops the hell out of the thing; it's clearly on tape now that the Mayor refused to take the action necessary to make that budget manageable.

Hanlon's face is so red he looks like he's going to blow his top. The auditor is not backing down and he looks very angry. My money says DeCoste is telling the truth and Hanlon and Ventrano are just spinning more lies.

This is required viewing, no way I could ever recap all of this.

The mayor actually contradicted himself. He said he wouldn't cut the budget but he did say that he would cut the $500,000 appropriation to the stabilization fund.

There are a lot of very angry people up there........... He's going to force the CC & BOA to make the cuts.

I hope he's planning to move to Vermont soon.

What about Vetrano saying she was willing to go back and take a look at cutting the budget after Saturdays meeting. She then states she was directed by the mayor not to touch it, the budget is to stand as it was submitted. She said something like, he's my boss and I have to do as directed. I don't even think Vetrano is pleased with this budget.

Citizen, wait until you see the tape. It is unbelievable, the will reconvene on Wednesday the 20th at 6:00 PM. They accomplished absolutely nothing tonight.

What does he gain by being this stubborn. Is his pride so wounded because they sent it back to him that he's willing to make himself look like a bigger ass than people already think he is? This was the perfect opportunity for him to say, you know what, we're going to hunker down and trim this budget as much as we can to make it workable. But instead he digs in his heels like a petulant two year old who's just been told he can't have candy before dinner?

It's mind boggling.

That meeting was a disgrace...I feel so bad for the auditor. I hope that he finds a new job soon. It'll definitely be the city's loss.

I hope we don't lose this auditor. He would be an asset to the next mayor. I'm afraid the mayor will get rid of him.

Citizen, the auditor also did some type of "spread sheet" (my word not his} to prove his figures were correct and he ran it by the DOR, and they said they saw no problem with it. He passed a copy of the to the city council. Oh, by the way, the mayor not only did not cut the budget he amended it and added to it. It is now $125,887,558. They have to cut 3 million just to get us below the levy. The mayor said the tax payer will be making up the rest of the increase.

He ADDED to it???? For what????

And I'm a little confused, massdee. . . did the DOR tell the auditor that he was correct in stating that the budget was over the levy limit?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. He was trying to do a projection of monies that would be collected and he did a work sheet of sorts and he checked with the DOR to make sure he was doing it correct. They said he had and his figures were a good estimate. The DOR knows the proposed budget is over the 2 1/2 levy. I guess they made some comments about the city of Everett that the auditor would not repeat. That's the way I understood it. Am I right, Tetris?

He said no job cuts and that should include the auditor. That's one Hanlon hire that knows his job! Too bad he didn't do as well with some of his others.

Chuck wants to cut all raises for non union employees which I think is unfair and unwarranted. If the raises were excessive, then yes, they should be decreased, but I don't think they should be the first place to cut. After all other cuts are made, if it's necessary to keep us under prop 2 1/2, then cut out the raises but don't start there. The morale @ city hall is pretty bad as it is, I don't see how hurting the employees is going to help us in the long run.

Next meeting is @ 6:00 on the 20th. (next Wednesday) Plan on a long night.......
