This was posted by a member on The Everett Mirror. I thought it was excellent:
Great job tonight Mr. Mayor. You are doing your best to finish in as distant third place as possible. You are such a bad manager that you make Carlo DeMaria seem like Rudy Guiliani. You are such a bad public speaker, you make Joe McGonagle look like Winston Churchill. You never wanted to run the third time. Boy, it shows now. Somehow, you managed to pull off a narrow victory, and turn your administration over to those wanted to settle old scores, take from the city for their own purposes, or were complete incompetants (yes Janice Ventrano, we the taxpayers mean you.) You still have time to retire. Resign now and turn the city over to competant managers. Do the taxpayers a favor and instead of firing the advisors who are driving this city off a cliff, fire yourself. Anyone who watched tonight's meeting will agree with me.

Yes massdee, I understood it the same way. I think he said something along the lines of the DOR being "aware" of Everett and that he didn't want to repeat what they said. |

I pretty much got the same impression. The only place that I would differ is that the DOR agreed with the methodology that he used to make his estimates but wouldn't really comment on the actually numbers.

I think this is the first time in the history of any mayor that one of his department heads came before city government and completely contradicted what the mayor said. Generally the disagreements go on behind closed doors, but once the message is decided on, everyone presents a unified front. Just goes to show you how little leadership ability Hanlon actually has. |

Let's face it, most people don't like to lie and if the time comes that they're going to, it generally is not going to be to cover for someone else. |

An elderly gentleman recently suggested to me that he believes Walking Eagle (a bird so full of sh** that it cannot fly) is actually vindictive enough to make the citizens of this city "pay" for not electing him the first time. Given his recent actions...the man may have a point. Is it me, or do you get the sense that the "mask is off" and we're seeing the "real" John?
I'm glad the auditor stood up for himself and the taxpayers. Let's hope that city government stands up for us, too. |

This is the second time in the past couple of months the mayor has had someone beside him letting us all know that the mayor is incorrect. |

Yes, I think we're seeing the real John Hanlon now and he's not the "nice" man people thought he was. He's been on a vendetta since he was elected but now more and more people are being targeted.
I don't like what I'm seeing and am very concerned about what he'll do once he loses the primary in September......... |

Are you worried that he'll "go postal?" I don't think so. He may fire half of city hall...but that might be a good thing, particularly if he started with the budget office, and worked his way down to procurement....and then, he could start firing the rest of the seven mayors? |

justme, funny you should say that, it's not really funny, that has been one of my growing concerns these past few months. I don't ever remember seeing a more meaner and vindictive person, even John McCarthy in his worst day does not hold a candle to this guy. |

I actually have to give Carlo DiMaria some credit in trying to control the meeting tonight. He did a decent job of trying to make this a productive meeting rather than a political one. It was an impossible task but he kept at it. He still hasn't convinced me that he's mayoral material but, then again, neither has anyone else who is running. |

Oh, I don't know about that...I've seen a few tirades by Mayor McCarthy in my day, particularly after Ragucci took him in the preliminary election. He was lashing out, left and right - even with constituents. He knew his goose was cooked. Of course, if Walking Eagle completely unravels, I understand there's a good clinic at Whidden that can take care of him.

The mayor tried to turn it into a political event from the moment he started his opening statement. I agree Carlo did do a decent job at keeping the hearing in hand. You really can't blame the city council for being on the defensive, the mayor came out swinging, he set the tone of the meeting. It was all downhill once he opened his mouth.

Actually Court, I'm not afraid he'll go postal. I'm worried that he'll do things that will be cost us, the taxpayers, a lot of money to get back at us for not reelecting him. You know the saying.......... Payback is a b*tch!
John McCarthy at his worst was a cupcake next to this guy. The term used for McCarthy was mean spirited, and he was. He never smiled and had no patience but he always knew what he was talking about and never lied to to the CC, BOA, or the public! He was also a good mayor which is something I can't say about Hanlon! |

I'm glad that Carlo cut the mayor off when he did. I think the top of his head might have blown off if he kept going and none of us need to see what is (or isn't) in there. |
