After talking about this subject with my son tonight it reminded me of a situation my family member was in at 17. He was arrested because of someone in his car that was in possession of an illegal substance. It almost cost him his career even though it happened when he was a juvenile. Although they say your record disappears, law enforcement agencies are able to get a hold of these records. My son had already heard the story before and said nothing is worth ruining your life over at this age. I explained to him how important it is to stay away from situations where you could get into situations like that. Hopefully he learns from other peoples mistakes. All I can do is guide them. I am not sure how I feel about the police blotter at all. I like the fact that people are now able to see what really goes on in this city, but I think that could be done by reporting the news when it happens.

Sally,
the whole point is that what you are doing is the best for the kids. The true sign of a great parent is when they can effectively communicate with their kids, which it sounds like you do. By keeping communication open, your children will learn more about life and all of it's experiences. I say KUDOS to you, from one parent to another.

Thanks Masterful. I am proud of how my kids have turned out so far. They make mistakes, but they have grown into respectful, hard working young adults.

Sounds like you're tougher with your kids than I was Sally. In that type of situation, I would have done just about anything to keep their names out of the paper and avoid the local gossips. Thankfully, I was never put to the test.

I don't blame the parents for calling in whatever favors they needed to to keep things as quiet as possible. It's definitely not fair. But, it's a fact of life.
