I agree, Obvious. Leave the kids alone.

Reminds me of something that happened to me when I was a teenager. Four of us were behind the High School with a 4-pack of wine coolers that hadn't even been opened yet (yeah, wine coolers are lame--I certainly didn't bring them). Anyhow, the cops come racing up in their cars and we all run because we don't what the hell is happening. So long story short, 3 of us get taken to the police station and the mayor's daughter gets to leave. This was over 15 years ago and I'm still pissed off to this day about that night. Anyhow, this discussion reminded me of that night so there ya go...

Obvious,
This "kid" who is of legal age which is 17 here, is not a normal teenager. This is one of many issues she has had with the law. There is a difference between making a mistake and being an out of control teen.

And there is a problem when every other kids name ends up in the police blotter, and one kids does not. And this has happened more than once.

Sally,

If it were your child and you could keep his/her name out of the paper, what would you do?

I know what my choice would be............

But Sally, if it was your kid, would you want this conversation on a public message board to be happening? And wasn't it you who told us that this person is a minor?

The point is . . . there are a lot of other things we need to be concerned about right now, and focusing on the alleged problems of an allegedly troubled young person shouldn't be that high on our list of priorities.

Sally,

It's not right but it's always been that way.

When I was college age (and I'll be pushing the big 50 by the end of the month), two of my friends were picked up at the same time on the same charges. One was the son of a Everett Fire Department captain; the other had no connection to anyone in the city. We were not able to bail out the one whose father was the captain but he also faced no charges; the other was charged and had to go to court.

Again, it may not be right but it's nothing new.

And as justme said . . . if it was one of our own kids, and we had the connections to protect them from public exposure, we'd do it.

Sally, it's obvious you have a personal vendetta against this minor of 17, perhaps this person has brought harm to one of your own children which would explain the way your feeling. But, with all due respect, this still is not the place to be discussing children. Can you not take your information to the proper authorities? If this person is a repeat offender, they obviously need help. There are many agencies out there where you can make an anonymous call to report a troubled teen. With any luck, you will end up helping this child in the long run rather than allowing those close to this child to continue to cover things up and not get the proper help this child is obviously in need of.

Not a personal vendetta, just pure amazement at what some kids get away with at the high school and with the police. It is not fair to all the other kids. And I teach my kids that there are consequences and that they have choices to make. We were all kids but my name was never close to being in a police blotter. I never mentioned names because that would be wrong. I just cannot understand the different treatment for some people.

Sally, you didn't answer the question, although others did.

What would you do if it was your child?

Truth be told: if this were my kid, I would do everything in my power to prevent his/her name from becoming "grist for the mill." That's practically target practice in this city.

Justme,
My kids would have to deal with the consequences. What am I going to keep their name out of the paper beg Josh Resnick? I would not like seeing their names in the blotter, but I do not think they should be treated any differently. My kids are not angels by any means.
