I have no idea what kind of Mayor Carlo will be however, one can only hope for the best. If I were the incoming Mayor, I would stay away from City Hall also. I would wait until I am sworn in and then let people go gradually. I would definitely not get rid of all my department heads at the same time. Keep in mind that they are not only employees at will but they were hired as part of the current administration. Even in the private sector, you can be escorted out the door at a moment's notice. They are (except for a few) a nasty and vindictive group of people. Insensitive? Perhaps, but as Mayor, the responsibility is to protect the City, the residents and the taxpayer. Heaven only knows what damage these people would do if they actually knew at this time that they were being fired. Keep in mind all that took place over the past two years. Maybe Carlo is smarter than what we give him credit for. |

We really do not know what he is doing. This is all hear say. Let's wait and see what happens in a few short weeks.

Emile, are you saying that you asked the current speaker of the house what he thought of John Hanlon firing George Keverian ? |

I did not ask for the Speaker's opinion, but rather what was said during the Speaker's meeting with Carlo.
The current Speaker of the House personally admonished the Mayor Elect for allowing Hanlon to fire Keverian. GK is still extremely well respected at the State House.
Sounds clear enough to me.

Actually it isn't very clear. Are you saying that the speaker of the house met with Carlo DeMaria and you know what was said at that meeting. |

Wasn't there something in one of the papers relative to that conversation when Stat introduced Carlo to the Speaker? |

Yeah, he said something to the effect that Carlo should have known about it and done something about it. He is not yet the Mayor and has no place telling Hanlon what to do. I hope Carlo gets rid of lots more people up there and does not worry about the backlash from people who think others deserve jobs because they held a sign, or are related to a friend. I say lets give him a chance, there is nothing else we can do. I for one have faith that Carlo knows what turned everyone on Hanlon, and he will not make the same mistakes. I was wrong about Hanlon, but he is gone soon, and we need to have this city heading in a positive direction.

He is the Mayor-elect and with that should come some say as to Mr Keverian's employment. Especially since it looks to be payback time for Mr Keverian's support of Joe.
I was wrong about Hanlon also. We all would have been better off the past two years if Ragucci had been re-elected. I never voted for Ragucci and I know I made a huge mistake by not doing so. A lot of people have said they didn't vote for Joe because of his association with Ragucci. I guess that same kind of thinking holds true for me. I am worried about Carlo because of his association with Hanlon and Thibeault. Sally, I hope you are right and your faith in Carlo is not misplaced. I want him to do a great job, I just don't know if he will know how. Trying his best and not getting the job done will not be good enough. This city needs him to succeed. I really do wish him all the best.

I have to be positive. What good does it do to worry about things that may never happen? I think we will be pleasantly surprised by Carlo.

Sally, I have a question. I only ask because of your support of Carlo. Will you be surprised if a waste facility transfer station goes in down on lower Broadway? If you don't mind, have you ever discussed this with Carlo and if so, could you share with us what he said? |

I just got off the phone with a City Hall worker who can't believe all the people close to the outgoing mayor who are milking the taxpayer dollar even at the end of Hanlon's reign of terror. Receptionists in the Mayor's office who normally work until 12 PM will be working until 4PM on Hanlon last day in office. It is not because they have more work. They just want the 4 extra hours of pay. Then there is Mr. Andrew (former Auditor) who I am told has been paid almost $20,000 since October to open up mail in the mayor's office. Couldn't Hanlon's secretaries open his mail? Or wasn't the outgoing mayor capable of opening his own mail? Oh, I sorry. He could open the mail but he did not understand what he read once he opened the mail. What a waste of taxpayer dollars! It's great that today's Hanlon's last day. Good riddens to the worst mayor in Everett's history. Hopefully the new mayor will have the good sense to fire Hanlon's excuse for a budget director as his first official act. By the way, who dresses that Vetrano woman in the morning? Her pets? |
