We did learn that Mr Carlisle is not certified as of yet for this position.
Another thing we learned is that Mr Thibeault has 18 months to enclose his facility. Does that mean if he is not the owner of the property on lower Broadway and the owner sells to someone else, Thibeault will have to enclose Boston Street? |

If the mayor has done anything wrong, it was placing his trust in Thibeault. A lot of us having been trying to tell him that.
I'm pretty sure that Mr. Pedulla wasn't certified when he got the position either; that got paid for on our dime. Now, we're paying for another one. Little different in this case though. Someone who has been involved municipal procurement for fifteen years and doesn't have their certification yet. I'm not sure I heard a good reason for that.
I think that all the enclosed facility requirement in 18 months means is that the state has finally had enough and eventually Wood Waste will have to address the issue. Would I bet money on there being an enclosed facility on any site in 18 months? I like my money too much. |

Another thing we learned is Jason Marcus is "tired of getting mail." He then try to qualify that statement by saying unsigned mail. |

I could not beleive my ears when I heard Marcus say that. "He's sick of getting mail". Signed or not, that's what HE signed up for as Alderman to listen to constituents concerns/complaints. A lot of people are not happy with alleged political retaliation and don't want to sign their names and should not have too. I do, because I want an answer and half the time, my letters/e-mails are ignored anyway. I like e-mail because you have a record of how many times you sent it and when they come knocking at election time, you can show how many times you have written letters and sent e-mail with no response. |

This article might be the EPA fine the Alderman was talking about that the Mayor said did not happen.
Mass. Recycling Facility Facing Fines for Clean Water Violations
Contact Information: David Deegan, (617) 918-1017
(Boston, Mass. - July 12, 2006) - Wood Waste of Boston, an Everett, Mass. construction and demolition debris recycling facility, is facing a fine of up to $157,500 and is required to take actions to prevent pollution from entering the Mystic River watershed.
An EPA complaint against Wood Waste alleges that the Everett company violated the federal Clean Water Act by discharging storm water from industrial activities on its site to the Island End River without a permit, and for failing to prepare a storm water pollution prevention plan.
EPA also issued a compliance order to the facility. Because storm water can contain potentially harmful pollutants, EPA’s order requires Wood Waste to apply for a storm water permit and to develop a storm water pollution prevention plan. The storm water plan will contain a series of “best management practices” designed to prevent or reduce the discharge of pollutants to the river, including oil and heavy metals. The company will also be required to do periodic monitoring of storm water discharges from the site and to submit reports to EPA.
EPA has been focusing on water pollution problems in the Lower Mystic River Area, including those caused by municipal and industrial storm water discharges. Storm water discharged from the Wood Waste facility flows into the Island End River, a tributary of the Mystic River. This action is one part of a larger, comprehensive effort by EPA to reduce the volume of pollutants discharged to the Lower Mystic River watershed thereby improving the environment and human health conditions in this historically disadvantaged area.
EPA will continue to investigate and address sources of pollution in the Lower Mystic Watershed. Citizens in the Lower Mystic River Watershed are encouraged to report possible environmental violations to EPA (epa.gov/region1/contact/enforcement.html) (or by calling 1-888-372-7341).

Massdee,
I think if you watch it again, you'll find that Marcus said the DEP had fined Wood Waste and the mayor cautioned him on getting his facts straight. I believe that later on in the discussion, after Marcus finally figured out what he was talking about, the mayor admitted to this fine but stated that he didn't know the current status. I don't believe that any of us has been able to determine what the current status of it is either.
Marcus' public speaking skills leave a lot to be desired. |

I am going to try and stay awake and watch the tape at 11:00 PM. I was taking notes, so I know I missed some things. |

After Wayne was told that item #27 didn't belong on the agenda, he proceeded to get up and speak on it anyways. Then he started going on and on about another item had he would have added about under suspension because he got some complaints about streets in the area of his residence having such bad potholes that the street sweeper was unable to get up them. In describing the car repairs that might be required from pothole damage, he used a term that is also slang for a sexual act. I don't believe that he realized what he did. I'll leave it at that. |

I was a little bit off in my recollection of the DiMaria/Marcus exchange. It was actually the mayor that led Marcus in the right direction about the EPA fine. |

Massdee, if you believe Jason is getting mail from unsigned people we are all crazy lol, if you listen closly Jason and the Mayor say "I am reading the same thing you are" I.E. the Blog, so we know they read the blog out here. Now that is funny. The Mayor better be careful, lawsuits can come out of him opening his mouth in public forum since woodwaste has cases pending against the city. As far as the P.A. goes Pedulla wasn't certified either he had to go to school so I would think Carlisle will go get certified also, I just don't want to see him as our new Personal Director that's scary |

There are to many important issues going on to take a month off and that is to much time to take off. Two weeks perhaps but not a month. |

I don't have much in the way of comment about what is on the agenda this week. That's not to say that it won't be an interesting meeting; how could it not be with Wood Waste and the budget on the agenda.
Thank you for no "face time" items on the agenda this week. (You know who you are.)
Shouldn't there be an item on the agenda about designating Ms. Deveney a special employee so that she hold two positions? What's the hold up?
Couldn't agree with Kimmy and Card more. I've posted this before but I'll post it again. Both boards need to have at least one regularly scheduled meetings a month during the summer. Charter reform anyone? |
