Marcus was on Channel 2's "Greater Boston with Emily Rooney" last night speaking in favor of police surveillance cameras. I'm not so sure he should be appearing on television for reason. |

I agree.....although I like the idea of the camera's being installed. As long as someone is monitoring the cameras. I can think of a dozen or so spots that need them. |

Watched the show, this will be the one time that I agree with him, we do need cameras. Its public intersections so I can’t see why anyone would object. I think safety comes before privacy and there isn’t anything private about public intersections. Not that it really matters, but I wish I knew we already had them, and the police were monitoring. |

What's your point?
My opinion is the Mayor's comments on Frank Champi were less than desired. |

I'm sure there is some sort of joke in there....Im just not getting it. I do think it would be nice to see a camera looking straight down Gladstone Terrace (last street on the right off Broadway heading towards the rotary). I walk my kids to school every morning...more than half the time I find evidence of some activity that shouldnt be happening (needles, empty baggies, booze bottles, condoms). The street is a haven for drug use, drug sales and prostitution. |

I think cameras are great, and if it deters crime, then I'm really all for it. If your doing something wrong, on a public street then that's the chance you take. |

I am not against the cameras but if they are set up and the bad people know where they are won't the bad people just move their business/illegal activities to another spot?
I would like to the see the city have the cameras set up so they are mobile and be able to be moved w/o much trouble.
Obviously, the cameras could only be put in public places ,so as to not violate individuals rights, but I think having the cameras with the ability to move them would be a better idea than stationary cameras.
How about cameras in some of the parks? |

Using cameras as a police tool is something that intrigues me. Its innovative, professional, and certainly would offer law enforcement a more substantive set of teeth to bite into when prosecuting perpetrators. With the changing complextion of Everett; you have to up the ante to combat crime.
However, that being said, the City of Everett is experiencing hard times and this type of upgrade could only mean money. Purchasing the cameras is the easy part. Training police personnel would be the expensive part. I certainly dont question the police doing their job properly; however, I do think that unfortunately, "politics" could interfere.
Imagine this scenerio..... "Hey, my kid was caught on camera doing a deal. What would it take to make the tape disappear.?" Sad to say, but that's the way things are being done in this city today. Sad but true.
So, whats the use? When we have honesty and integrity back in the big blue building, then maybe we can think of making these type of changes. I'd be more interested in putting a camera in the Mayor's office or City Services or perhaps with all the deals being made lately, in the back room of the City Council. |

Item #19...It's hard to understand why, at this point, that the mayor would want to establish an Inspectional Services Department. If it was cost effective, that would be one thing, but after listening to the BOA meeting it was stated they will be hiring a new Director for this department. Wouldn't it make more sense to be cutting back on the budget not adding to it?
