1. & 2. So technically, I was wrong about these appointments; but only because the agenda item referred to the old name for the board and so do the ordinances. One of the recommendations from the Charter Review commission needs to be that the ordinances get a good cleaning too.
3. Why does it not surprise me that it is the property owner that’s pushing to get this cleaned up?
4. Sorry folks but the state moves at its own speed and that’s just the way it is. No excuse for it though.
5. I just don’t understand why people think that the city is losing revenue on incorrect water billings. Isn’t it just a question of whether or not the right people are paying for the water?
8. & 10. I think it is embarrassing that an alderman would stand up and say that that they didn’t read an entire ordinance before they voted on it. It’s two and ½ pages of text, not a healthcare bill. Or why an alderman would say that if an ordinance doesn’t have enough “teeth”, we’ll add more at a later time. Don’t bother to try and get something right the first time. My opinion is that the piece as constructed is heavy on registration requirements and fees but light on remedies as to what can be done with problem dogs and owners after the fact, at least in comparison to the Lynn ordinance on which it was suggested to be based. But, it’s up to the board to decide what they want to put into place.
9. Anybody surprised that Alderman Matewsky didn’t get the story correct on this “problem” before he put it on the agenda? I think he could use a good long rest.
12. I guess that Alderman Marchese didn’t get the same thing out of the MRF hearing that I did if he still believes that giving the homeowner exemption affects the commercial tax rate. I think that it helps to prove my point that last week’s presentation could have been better. While we usually make out fairly well because of the exemption, I wouldn’t mind seeing it modified if the change was going to benefit more people more evenly.
13. One child per apartment? I guess I missed the moving of the city to China. Why not just pick up the phone and call the city solicitor to find out if something like this is legal before you put it on the agenda?
14. “Yeah, Mike’s such a nice guy that I arranged this packed room for him tonight”. Watch your back Alderman Marchese. Next time you want some information from the auditor, just give him a call. You can probably get your answers without the dog and pony show.
15. I think that I nailed this one in my pre-meeting comments. #17 too.
16. I’d hazard a guess that the City Clerk was as surprised as anybody that he’s the expert on the Mayor’s salary. |

#16
Now is not the time for raises, not just the mayor but anyone. There are a lot of us out of work and I don't think it's fair to ask us to foot the bill for raises right now.

I saw this on Topix about item# 16 put on the agenda by Jason Marcus, and thought it was little funny, and a little true too.
…from the home office in Everett, MA. Here now is this week Top Ten List, the Top Ten Reasons that the Mayor needs a raise:
#10. With the tax rate going up $2.33, you try paying the tax bill on Casa DeMaria.
#9. He’s saving up to get his master’s degree at clown college.
#8. Sick of being made fun of by Curatone and Dolan.(Here’s a hint; they still will.)
#7. A rising tide lifts all boats...and salaries.
#6. Wants to fund a personal study to figure out where the “days” have “gone”.
#5. Found out that he can’t declare Mangan and Puleo as dependents.
#4. The Everett newspapers are “turning the screws” more and more every week.
#3. Ego demands that he gets a bigger pension base than Hanlon and Ragucci.
#2. Otherwise, he’s going to cut back to a 1 hour work day so that he can make a living wage.
And the #1 Reason that the Mayor needs a raise,‘Cuz Jason Marc-ASS Said So!! |

WELL HE RAN FOR 2 SEATS, C.C. AND CHARTER REVIEW BOARD, IF HE HAD ANY CLASS HE WOULD RESIGN FROM 1 OF 2 SEATS, HE IS NOT SMART ENOUGH FOR THAT, HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF, HE IS RUMP SWABING THE MAYOR, IT IS FUNNY JASON MARCUS BRINGS THIS UP, AS THE MAYOR KEEP'S GIVING OUT JOB'S, AS IN THE MAYOR HIRE, HIS PUPPET SAM AMARDO, TO RUN THE EVERETT REC CENTER, BUT IT IS ALWAYS IN THE 3 PAPERS WHEN SOMETHING IS DONE AT THE REC, ( MAYOR CARLO DEMARIA AND THE EVERETT REC CENTER PRESENT'S THIS OR THAT) WE DID NOT NEED A REC DIRECTOR IF THE MAYOR IS INCHARGE, AMARDO HAS NO QUALIFICATIONS AT ALL FOR THE JOB , IF YOU GO BY THE JOB POSTING ON ( CRAIGS LISTING ). |

My point is that FFF made a huge to do about nothing. He had all those parents show up at the meeting and all Alderman Marchese wanted to do was ask a question. It's part of the Alderman's job to ask questions. There was no need for what went on at the meeting.

I think you might be misunderstanding my post. I have no problem with the parents going to a meeting. That is our right. I was not there, I watched at home. It just seemed to be a bit of over kill. Like you said Alderman Marchese was only asking a simple question. I doubt that many of those parents would have attended if they hadn't received an automated message from the school department. That's not to say they didn't care about the issue, it's obvious that they do.
I still feel it's a misuse of the automated system, as I originally posted. I am no way knocking the parents or Alderman Marchese. I am questioning Mr Foresteire's use of the automated call system.

My opinion is it’s a double edge sword. I have a problem with these reverse 911 calls all together. The system was designed for emergency use or a detrimental issue. I get so many stupid calls from the City of Everett now - more than I ever have. I have become accustom to ignore them. I’ve received two calls from the school department to attend a Board of Alderman meeting last Monday, but was never told why.
In defense to Alderman Marchese, he was *not* told prior to the meeting that someone from the Administration would not be there to answer questions that HE put on the agenda. That is his right as an Alderman to ask these questions on behalf of the taxpayers. Was Larry so ill that he could not call Mike and apologize that he would not be at the meeting, or better yet, who does Larry report to when he’s out sick? They couldn’t let Mike Marchese know? It’s just he said……..it’s a dog and pony show just to rubber stamp an issue.
I’m all for the new pre-school but the Alderman have a right to have their questions answered. If they don’t ask questions, we accuse them of being lackadaisical and rubber stamping everything on the taxpayer dime.

I believe from watching the meeting, the Board of Aldermen were just as surprised with Mr DeCoste's absence as the audience was. It looked like the Administration (the city, not the school department) didn't inform the BOA and sent no one in Mr DeCoste's place.
