Another shining moment in Everett politics last night. I knew the minute the Mayor bombed into the chambers it was all going to start. I can understand both sides of the argument from item one but if ANY alderman had questions, why couldn't it go to finance and be hashed out there? It's not due until June 30th and the Mayor put a freeze on all department spending.

I also thought it was extremely unprofessional and showed his true colors to make a comment to the Board of Alderman that it was a "foolish tactic" to send to finance. What a BIG JERK.

RVC was right......he cut the MIS position however, he just posted it. It made no sense and that could have been worked out in finance committee, rather than spending hours and hours on TV. It would have been voted on Feb. 23rd. What is wrong with understanding what it is you are voting on??

Larry DeCoste......Larry, Larry, Larry. What happened to Larry? To stand there and say the department heads are going to spend the money when the Mayor put a freeze on all spending. I cant believe Larry did that. He thinks people are stupid too!

Also, the "intimidation" of the Mayor to stand there and say "WHO" is talking is unacceptable. He's acting like a BIG BULLY and a CHILD in this time of crisis. GROW UP.

I usually, but not always admittedly, try at leaset to be a little more constructive than this. But, last night proved to me that, beyond all shadow of a doubt, that "A New Beginning" is a figment of somebody's imagination.

Usually the BOA meetings have a sense of decorum to them. Last night's meeting was disgraceful. It is quite obvious a line has been drawn in the sand.

Every time the mayor asks for something Nuzzo, Marcus and Sachetta are going to vote for it. Matewsky will flip flop, depending who gets to him first. DiPerri, Van Campen and Marchese seem to weigh things out and if it is hurting the taxpayer, they vote against it.

In my opinion, it was ludicrous for the BOA to slash the budget by $800K+ and then give out a salary increase that will increase FY10's budget. What is wrong with these people? Don't they get that people are having a hard time?

We need people to run for the BOA who actually care about the city and it's residents.

Enough is enough!!!

While I'm not happy the way the entire veterans commissioner fiasco went down, I don't know if replacing the boob would be in the best interest to the veterans.

Perhaps the veterans themselves can have input, or maybe Millie and Leo can and see how they feel.

From what I know for fact was they were very pleased with former Commissioner Rice. He did a tremendous amount of work and literally walked the streets seeking them. He was kind and showed compassion and there was no reason to to replace him with anyone else. I understand a mayor can hire/fire whomever he wishes, but to make that position political was wrong.

Item #1.
Any relation to Jim Mitchell at the Advocate?

Item #2.
Judith Murphy is Assistant City Solicitor Melissa Murphy's mother. She also appeared in Mayor DeMaria's campaign video. Yup, "Gone are the days".........

Item #17.
So happy this is on the agenda. In some strange way, it kind of makes up for the CC not sending Simoneeli's piece to the BOA.

Item #18.
This should be very interesting.

As for Judith Murphy on the Board of HEALTH, I have a problem with that. She was on the campaign video, speaking out about illegal rooming houses when at the same time Hanlon was knocked out of the race, those same houses had DeMaria signs on them knowing perfectly well her daughter was getting a job.

Especially now that Wood Waste is supposed to be “controlled” by the Board of Health (ya right) you think for a second she will be impartial? She was not impartial during the campaign. She did all that knowing her daughter was getting a job...............

Gone are the days………MY EYE!

I think Deb and Bob should be on the BoH. They should also be the Chief of Staff, City Solicitor and Dog Catcher.

1. + 2.
When I first read these appointments, I was going to make my usual comment of "I don't understand why all of these appointments can't get done in the proscribed time frames". Then I was made aware that one of these appointments, as has been pointed out rightly elsewhere, seems very FFF-like, nominating the mother of a city employee to a position that will likely be at the center of an upcoming crucial decision for the city's future. On the other hand, I don't know the woman's background is or what her qualifications for position may be. I'm really at a loss to know what I should think or say about this.

6.
When I first read this piece, I thought that the wrong charter review piece from last week's Common Council agenda got referred out to the Board of Aldermen. After a little review though, it appears that someone thought that it wasn't necessary to bring forward all of the "Whereas" and "Therefore" legalese. What does remain though is everything after the "Therefore".

12.
My guess is that the wind turbine issue goes nowhere....again.

13.
I hope that the outsiders that have appeared on this piece realize that there presence isn't going to change the way that any of the aldermen vote on it.

14.
We know that the news won't be great on the condition of the fire trucks. Maybe we'll find out the status of the fire truck that the Mayor thought that he might be able to get from Exxon/Mobil. Then again, maybe not.

15.
Although I understand and agree with this piece, I thought that it could and should have been written a little differently as to not be so fear-mongering.

16.
We've been a little light on repaving requests so far this year. I'd expect that to change soon. Then, it'll be time to start the debate on how these requests get prioritized again.

17.
Consent Agreement. Meeting with the DEP. There should be plenty of Wood Waste news Monday night.

18.
My best guess is that the following section of the zoning ordinances is what is being questioned here. The odor portion seems clear. What qualifies as "waste" legally could be an issue though. In that respect, I'm sure that Wood Waste would argue that they are no different in this respect than junk yards or the like..

SECTION 7. INDUSTRIAL DISTRICTS.

(a) Uses. In any industrial district as shown on the Zoning Map, as most recently amended, any use shall be allowed except that the following shall be prohibited. Provided, however, that nothing in this section shall be construed as limiting the powers of the board of aldermen as now established by law.

(1) Uses which produce offensive odors, emissions, fumes, gases, or smoke, which produce noise or vibrations which are discernible beyond the limits of the property lines or which produce dust or waste on the exterior of the building.

19.
I thought that the issue of "shovel ready" projects had already been discussed at the last town meeting? And I believe that Tails provided a link to the state list that showed none of the projects submitted by the city proper made the list. That's too bad. I thought especially the Beacham Street project had some merit since Representative Markey was already trying to secure funding for it. It's a shame that projects like this didn't make the state list but other projects that seemed to fall outside the guidelines, i.e., more than two years to complete, did.

Judith Murphy is an R.N. Her qualifications are not an issue. Her relationship with the mayor, the Assistant City Solicitor and the role the Board of Health in the Wood Waste matter is a much bigger problem for me. It appears the deck is being stacked.
